Position Paper for the Security Council
The Republic of Senegal is delighted to be able to participate in one of the most, if not the most, important committee that are currently existing on the global level. There is no question that there are multiple issues current in the world right now that split the world in very difficult questions. When it comes to the issue of the Syrian Civil War, Terrorism in Africa, or Security Reform, it is important that the United Nations comes to a unified stand point in which every nation feels itself represented.
I. The Situation in the Central African region: Boko Haram
The Republic of Senegal welcomes the initiative to discuss the issue of terrorism in the Sahel region, specifically cruelties expropriated by the terrorist group Boko Haram. The Republic of Senegal sees the developments as a direct thread to its security. It recognizes that the issue in the Sahel region does not get as much attention as other issues currently in the world, therefore putting more pressure on debating the issue in this meeting. Boko Haram has so far tried to siege control over regions in the Sahel, specifically territories in Northern Nigeria . So far, Boko Haram is still in the stage of developing itself and expanding its tentacles, therefore the Republic of Senegal sees this as an essential problem that should be discussed in the Security Council as it can still be curbed into non-existence.
The Republic’s commitment to curbing in Boko Haram’s sphere of influenced is evidenced by several actions it has taken so far. Firstly, it has arrested and prosecuted hate preaching imam’s and relatives who were involved in processes that have undermined the Republic of Senegal’s sovereignty by preaching in support of Isla...

For the past two years, the Republic of Senegal has been a non-permanent member of the Security Council. In these two years SSR has been widely discussed and Republic of Senegal has always shared the ideas and efforts put forward by member states that ensure effective SSR. It guides itself by the ideas of the Rule of Law and greatly respects Human Rights, both within the Republic, as well as on a global level.
The Republic of Senegal is highly committed to the issues presented on the agenda and seeks for strong cooperation among all members of the Security Council. It hopes that the Security Council can take unified stances on the issues that are present and need attention on the highest level, therefore it is looking forward to the debate.
