Is this to say that women are held responsible for nudity in advertisements rather are women enjoying the sexuality in advertisements? It is complex to understand human society and culture however, women have always been discriminated. In this case, it is important to understand why women are the main instrument in advertisements. The structure of society plays a role in the display of a women’s body. The World Health Organization reported that the sexualization of women and girls is related to societal problems.
This research paper will explore the negative and positive influence that pornography has on society’s view of female sexuality. The belief that pornography promotes sexism and “perpetuates men’s control over women’s lives” has been expressed for decades, most notably by women such as Catharine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin during the anti-pornography feminism movement (Shaw 2010). It has been argued that porn is disempowering to women and depicts them as simply sex objects for men. Some pornographic material focuses on the male actor’s satisfaction and very little on the female’s stimulation (Arakawa, 2012). The women in these porn scenes are viewed as “little more than a receptacle for the penis” (Arakawa, 2012).
Women didn't have that many choices in order for them to gain power in life. They could become the mistress of a powerful and rich man or marry into a good family. Because of that, women were treated in a disrespectful way that led to rape, which Voltaire tries to emphasize the importance of their role. He uses this idea to grab people's attention so they would be well aware of how serious rape is. If Voltaire was capitalizing and reinforcing sexism, then those who were raped wouldn’t be telling each other their stories on how they were raped.
Sexual videos, magazines, movies and websites set unrealistic expectations for both women and men, and contribute to rape culture. Most porn videos are set up with a male-domination power theme, with the woman being controlled, sometimes even violently. Since men, and even young boys, are viewing women in these scenarios over and over, they start to believe that that’s how sex really should be, and that women are just sexual objects to look at and be played with. This has real life repercussions on how men treat and view women, affecting relationships and potentially even creating convicts, by putting the idea in some men’s heads that assaulting or raping women is perfectly fine. Pornography also has negative effects on women as well, mainly in terms of self-esteem and self-worth.
This presents greats risks such as having birth at a young age, or worse, contracting dangerous diseases such as HIV/AIDS (Sinković, Stulhofer and Božić 633). Pornography degrades the moral values of a society. With increased pornography in the contemporary society, sex is no longer a sacred act shared between two people who love each other. Sex has been abused by many people, while there has been an increase in promiscuity (Sabo 150). In addition, the perceptions that people have about sex and women has changed.
The dictionary definition of pornography is sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal. (http://dictionary.reference.com/) Theories from feminist Andrea Dworkin, Catharine A. Mackinnon, Robin Morgan, Nadine Strossen and Jennifer Saul as well as researching crime involving pornography was used to see how the degree of violence has escalated over the years in pornography. From these theories, feminist were divided into to categories; the anti- pornography feminist and the liberal/sex-positive feminists. Pornography reinforces the feminist idea of omnipresent female oppression. Society has become increasingly sexualized since pornography became part of free speech.
The topic of objectification of women in the media has severe side effects, especially to women, such as, depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, decreased self-esteem, and other physiological and psychological illnesses. Hence, intervening in this social issue through educating our youth and redefining what “beautiful” and “sexy” means will not only help end the sexual objectification of women in the media, but also other social issues, such as, the toleration of rape culture.
(Heartney) Any type of pornography text, even the most “correct”, contains a distorted image of the social and sexual relations between men and women of the society in which it takes place. On the other hand, there are those who believe that pornography is a necessary evil. While it may be somewhat of an inaccurate display of sexual interaction, pornography is a forum of the persuit of ki... ... middle of paper ... ... of monster that was frowned upon by higher authorities. Watching pornography has become less acknowledged as an improper action, and more as a tool to help people come to terms with their sexuality and help revive the sex lives of couples everywhere. Pornography is not a detriment to society, but rather a benevolent force that is helping those who are sexually confused and in need of guidance.

This essay makes me angry because it shows another part of life that is really not acknowledged. It seems realistic to me because many women in life are confronted with sex at an early age and become vulnerable. The unique thing that reaches me is how women do not have a choice, especially when it comes down to sex. Vulnerability is one of a woman's weaknesses. Pornography is degrading to women when it is forced upon them.
