Pornography and prostitution are both professions of a sexual and contradiction nature. Neither is a common profession amongst the average American citizen. But none the less, they are each a profession that has its own business structure and are supported by laws. Pornography and prostitution are both businesses of pleasure yet one is legal and the other is not.
I. Business of Pornography A. Government regulated When it comes to the business of pornography, I learned from my research and in my interview with Amy that it 's government regulated. According to Amy, she never once saw a girl forced into the porn industry. This is her direct quote. "I 've never seen a girl forced into doing a porn movie. I 'm not saying it 's never happened. Maybe it has, but I 've never seen it. And if it ever does happen you hear about girls being forced to do it by their agents or money crazed boyfriends. And again, all that gets shut down once the government gets involved. The industry is so much supervised and regulated that much of that stuff doesn 't go on." I also asked Amy if she had thought prostitution and pornography were the same. Her answer had shocked me. She conceded that the pornographic industry was much cleaner and safer than prostitution. She also went further into saying that she looks down upon prostitution. Business of Prostitution A. Not government regulated This brings me to my next subject, the business of prostitution. In this business, although similar in sexual nature, it is not government regulated. In England during the years 1860-1914, there was an attempt at government regulation of prostitution. This is a direct quote of it from a book called "Prostitution: Prevention and Reform in England, 1860-1914":
"Fears that it would infect the respectable world, destroy marriages, the home, the family, and ultimately the nation led to attempts to regulate and reform the prostitute and to prevent and suppress prostitution. Even though prostitution is illegal in most parts of the country and world, it is still legal in some places. And where prostitution is legalized it is government regulated and supervised.
