Over the years, many cities, particularly large cities, around the world have had tremendous problems and had suffered massively from the huge number of population in that city. One of those massive cities is Mexico City. Mexico City, being very popular in Mexico, is unbelievably overpopulated. Several factors caused this overpopulation. This over population affects the people in many various ways negatively. It affects the geography and climate of the city, causes pollution, and a housing crisis.

The transition, however, was not so smooth. Men and women were attracted to the new cities because of the culture and conveniences that were unavailable to rural communities. Immigrants in particular were eager to get to cities like New York, Chicago, and Boston for these reasons, and to look for better jobs than the ones they had found at home. In fact, without the increase in immigration from 1850 to 1920 (where around 38 million came to America), cities would have expanded at lethargic rates – if at all – due to a decreasing fertility rate and a high rate of infant mortality. Death due to disease was also common. Yet the influx of immigrants managed to make up for these losses, and cities grew exponentially for nearly a century1.
When there is a surplus of food in a community, the birth rate goes up because there is enough food to support a big family. Since the green revolution was making more food. Ordinary people had more food to live off. They started having more kids. Document 2 shows a graph of the population of the world and the food supply. After the green revolution, the food supply went up which caused the population to up. There are many problems that occur when a population of a community gets to big. When there is a lot of people in a community, they rely on crops and farms to make more food to feed all the hungry people. But if there is a bad harvest or a natural disaster happened and destroys food. Then a lot of the overpopulated community can die of starvation. Another thing that happens with a higher population is there is more crime. Since overpopulated places tend to be poor, there is more crime going around. The food source is low so people might be fighting over goods. A missing document that could help prove the claim more is a typical graph of all the murders in a country that started the green revolution. This would help becasue overpopulation causes crime. If the crime goes up and the population, then that proves that the crime increase was becasue of the increase of population caused by the green
One of the effects the Industrial Revolution caused were the growth of population. As factories developed in cities, many people began to move to these cities for job opportunities. In the 19th Century, the government began to obtain intermittent polls and track the number of births, deaths and marriages (Spielvogel 609). By 1800, London had a population of one million (Spielvogel 611). The number of deaths caused by diseases such as plague and smallpox also decreased dramatically. There were many advances that were made in medicine which led to people living longer than before.
On August 16, 1984 an international conference regarding population was held in Mexico City. It was at this conference that the Reagan Administration implemented the “Mexico City Policy”, also known and the Global Gag Rule. This policy stated that Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) would be prohibited from receiving United States funds if they performed, promoted, referred or counseled patients on abortion. The funds would be withheld from the NGOs even if the money used for abortion services were non-U.S. funds. This policy was in effect from 1984-1993 when president Bill Clinton came into office. On January 22, 2001 president George Bush reinstated the Mexico City Policy. There has been much debate over whether the policy is helping or hurting those abroad. Many people in the United States are not aware that the Mexico City Policy is in effect, or even what it is. It is very important that people here are aware of how the government is controlling health care and women’s rights in other countries.

For many, America has becoming a refuge for immigrants fleeing social, political, or economic struggles. Countries that are incapable of providing their citizens with the means necessary to fulfill a stable life tend to flee toward America. Today, the nation acts almost as a dumping ground for foreigners. As well, many locations in the United States have become ghost towns, whereas major cities are becoming overpopulated. People are migrating into areas where they see future economic opportunity. In looking at this, a great comparison can be seen between the population boom of the Market Revolution and the population of today's nation.

Over the span of a generation, Mexico City’s air has gone from being one of the world’s cleanest to one of the world’s most polluted, as well as the most polluted in its country. The average visibility in the city is down from almost 100 km in the 1940s to only 1.5 km today, removing the once beautiful landscape of the surrounding snow-capped volcanoes (Yip, 1). More significantly, however, Mexico City’s air problems have resulted in a notable decrease in the health of its residents, particularly its children. There are a variety of reasons for the decline in air quality, including factory emissions, suspended particles, vehicles, as well as problematic geographic hindrances.

As Mexico is rapidly urbanizing, many of its citizens are being very negatively affected. The lives of many rural farmers are being uprooted as a result of faulty policies and poorly thought out laws. Monopolist industries make it impossible for these poor workers to get back on their feet, and they are forced into inhumane living conditions. Mexico will continue to be in a perpetual state of disparity until corporations are able to let go of their greed for the sake of the country.
