When it comes to politics America is divided mainly into two major parties: Republicans and Democrats. While both of these parties run for the same office, they view many issues differently. In this essay I am going to discuss just five issues that these two parties have different stances on. These topics are legalization of marijuana, abortion, gay rights, gun control, and the death penalty. I will also give my stance on all these topics and see which party I align with the most. The legalization of marijuana has been a topic of discussion for quite some time. Republicans are mainly against the legalization of marijuana. Democrats tend to believe in having more gun control laws. They are generally against concealed carry. Republicans on the other hand are very different in their views. They are extremely supportive of the 2nd Amendment and the right to conceal carry. I am very torn on this issue. If a person decided to walk into my school or work and pull a gun and start shooting I would want someone to also be able to take action against them and pull out a concealed weapon that they have, but I also would like if the person that wanted to walk into a school or workplace couldn’t be able to get a gun in the first place. My ultimate decision on the issue is to have more gun control laws because I feel if it wasn’t as easy to obtain guns less actions of violence would happen. The last topic is the death penalty. This topic is very interesting because the Democratic and Republican parties have a common ground for the most part. Both parties heavily support the death penalty but most people who oppose the death penalty come from the Democratic party. My belief on the issue is that there has to be justice served to someone who is guilty. The punishment has to fit the crime. I think that the American justice system does well when choosing who to give the death
