Political Judgments Should Be Based on Merit and Performance Not Political Labels

The statement you issued on April 6 was indeed interesting. Apparently you consider yourself a socialist and have some deep seated sensitivity regarding the definition of the word itself. Judging from the tone of your letter you also apparently subscribe to "identity" politics and place great importance on labels. My wife and I are not from the Midwest and can not understand why so many people in Milwaukee continue to focus on race, labels, and political party identities. We prefer to make our political judgments based on individual merit and performance regardless of what label someone chooses for themselves. My wife and I moved to Milwaukee from Pennsylvania and north central New York State where we were brought up. We always considered the political environments of our hometowns to be somewhat corrupt and dishonest. When we moved to Milwaukee we were astounded by the level of political dishonesty and unethical behavior tolerated here. I could easily write a twenty page letter detailing the political corruption and federal prosecutions I have witnessed over the past ten years. Have you not kept track of all the embarrassing national news stories of corruption and criminal activity in Milwaukee? I am forced to listen to the jokes made for my choosing to live here. In fact, another very embarrassing story about Wisconsin made the national news yesterday and I bet there will be another by next week. I'm certain you are very familiar with the most recent scandal regarding a 47 million dollar, “no bid” deal with Talgo Inc. involving Governor Doyle and Mayor Barrett. State Representative Robin Vos described the deal as a "rigged" process. If such a “deal” occurred in my hometown there would have been an immedi... ... middle of paper ... ... I know this for a fact because my children and family live in the cities that still respect traditional American ideals and values. Instead of allowing the party ideology to define your thinking maybe you should be embracing the ideals that made America the envy of the world for the past 200 years. I can certainly understand your sensitivity with the “Socialist” label considering the way in which liberal socialists continue to deliberately damage the country that has provided them with a standard of living, freedoms, and economic opportunities not seen in any other form of government ever conceived. Why would anyone wish to label themselves a “Socialist” and associate with people who have disdain for their country? Your statement leaves no doubt in my mind that you fully support the policies and philosophy of a well known Socialist by the name of Barak Obama.
