A great man once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”(Mandela). Times have changed and today because of legendary political activists like Nelson Mandela, people feel inspired to speak up; they use their voices and pens to cause political change and fight for their rights. Also, nowadays people are granted so much more freedom than they were in the past and they are provided with so many different methods of expressing their political opinions and ideologies. Whether they are using the internet, forming an organization or writing a book it has become so much easier for them to share what they believe in with the intention of impacting the world.
Anyone today can form an activist organization which supports a specific cause. There are a lot of organizations that strive to positively influence the world. A good example of a Canadian organization which is trying to change things around and is succeeding in doing so is MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). Mothers Against Drunk Driving is an organization which aims to minimize impaired driving as much as possible in order to prevent the accidents that result from it. It was founded in 1980 by a woman called Candy Lightner who lost her daughter to drunk driving and strongly believed that it was an issue that needed to be dealt with. A lot of people joined her organization and today MADD has over 3 million members. MADD holds awareness campaigns in order to spread awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence. In its campaigns, the members show videos and presentations and hold lectures providing statistics of the fatalities; this raises the children’s consciousness on the issue. MADD also spreads awareness t...

It’s true that the kony campaign was not a success in the sense that Kony escaped and was not captured but a lot of money was raised to help the African children. The Kony campaign will always be a remainder of what people are actually capable of doing to obtain the change they want to see in the world.
People are very blessed to be able to share their opinion as freely as they can; it makes political activism so much easier. This current generation values every individual’s opinion and is very welcoming of change. People can use the internet, form an organization or write a book that forwards a political opinion in order to share what they believe in and affect the world around them greatly.
Luigie Olmos Instructor: Danielle Panto English 105 November 28, 2016 Reaching For A Better Education Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (2016). Mandela’s says that education is very powerful, you can use education to change the world or your life. This means that education is important in life and we all need a good education to succeed in life. In our society education is failing because schools demand too much for a great career. For example, schools take too much time to graduate and after we finish school there is no guaranteed employment. Therefore, students are dropping out of school and are going to the workforce or military. We could make education better for students
Throughout the documentary historical videos and photos are incorporated of the gathering of activists and volunteers
A survey can be defined as a gathering of a sample of data or opinions considered to be representative of a whole. Such as when the United States government polls a random selection of people throughout the country to get an accurate reading of the people's overall prospective of what the American people think is best for the country. As I almost reach the age of eighteen, not only do I have to start worrying about my career and college, I have to affliate myself with a party and prepare to vote. I have taken three online polls and they all came out with similar results; I am a republican. The three polls I took were The Political Affiliation Quiz, The Political Quiz, and Political Compass. I liked them all but all for various reasons.
Have you ever heard of the word activism? Or have you ever met an activist? Activism is the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring
Prominent leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King Jr. are known all around the world for teaching and practicing nonviolence while fighting for human justice and peace. They are graced throughout history books, not only for their commendable actions but for their effective manner of inducing change around the world. Although these prominent figures leave everlasting footprints on the soil of this earth, there are many more that have contributed and still contribute to the struggle of human survival.
Everyone has their own set of ideas, concepts and beliefs about how a government and a country should operate. Each person considers their own position to be “correct”. Fortunately, for a multicultural country such as America, there is room for every opinion, and it is the fusion of those opinions that make America the greatest country on earth.
Every country in the world has a government that sets laws to keep order and peace. Not every government can be just in its ruling, but what defines a just ruling? And does anyone truly have the right to control others? Throughout time different types of governments have been established. As history progressed most governments were overthrown because of the laws that were imposed. Emperors and Kings changed to Presidents and Prime Ministers. This was caused by revolutions because the people did not like the way they were being ruled. But should people be ruled in the first place? Who should have the right to do such a thing? Today, the most powerful countries are run by democracy. But what is its purpose? It is supposed to carry out the will of the majority. So this means that someone will always be unhappy. Political philosophy deals with these sort of issues. Great minds such as Plato, Aristotle, Voltaire and Locke have looked at these issues and have tried to find the best possible answers.
As Plato once said, “Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance”. From talk radio to television shows, from popular magazines to Web blogs, ordinary citizens, political figures, and entertainers express their opinions on a variety of topics. These technological advances and social media allows us to foster and explore our democratic right under the First Amendment (freedom of speech) to publicly discuss issues and offer opinions from different perspectives. As everyone’s opinion will differ from the next person, having a wide range of opinions can indirectly educate those who do not know anything about the topic and inspire them to research further into that topic.
... in communities around the world; creating an opportunity to change our society. Opportunities provided by education aren’t always seen on a nationwide scale. Often times it can be seen within a community, a town, or even a race. Acting as a role model for younger generations, Sherman Alexie encourages children from his hometown to work hard in school and speaks of the importance of education. Not only does he appeal to the children, but he does so with purpose; “I am trying to save our lives.” (Alexie, 18) The opportunities to impact the world through education can be found on a variety of different intensities. From facing highly sensitive topics to simply inspiring others to become more than what is expected; education is the root of the influence. Without knowledge to strengthen arguments and inspire others, individuals would be no different from one another.
Aristotle, Locke, and Hobbes all place a great deal of importance on the state of nature and how it relates to the origin of political bodies. Each one, however, has a different conception of what a natural state is, and ultimately, this leads to a different conception of what a government should be, based on this natural state. Aristotle’s feelings on the natural state of man is much different than that of modern philosophers and leads to a construction of government in and of itself; government for Hobbes and Locke is a departure from the natural state of man.
This summer if you were on social media you heard about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The concept was simple, just film yourself dumping a bucket of ice water over your head, challenge your friends to do the same, and donate ten dollars to the ALS Association. Opt out and donate one hundred dollars (Madison). Many Americans did not know what ALS was and by putting this challenge on social media has brought tons awareness to this devastating disease. Activism used to be taking action to bring social change, people in the 1960s used to gather in front of community centers and protest and or speak about their issue or cause. Now even though people still gather together it is much easier to use the internet. Hundreds of social media applications

A socio-political issue can be viewed as any matter that touches on both the social and political aspects of a given society. In other words, it is how the political issues through various policies or laws affect the general social facets. Examples of socio-political issues that are evident in the American society today include immigration, health, and gun control among others. Perhaps the most prevalent of these socio-political issues is immigration, which has received much attention especially due to the current presidential race (Trump). The question remains whether immigrants without valid documents should be transported back to their home countries or be granted amnesty has been the source of differing ideologies. The media has not been spared of this spectacle as various medium outlets have been vigilant airing any up-to-the-minute occurrence related to immigration.
To quote a phrase from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, "Make me the master of education, and I will undertake to change the world." If we are to change the world simply because we have and continue to acquire the education necessary to increase knowledge; we must never forget education along without the practice of inducing what is learned is not enough to produce attainable results favorable to sustain a society in the 21st century. We must become the voice of the people by getting involved to make a difference in the world by putting into motion what we have learned.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world;” this simple statement by South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, expresses a fundamental truth of the world- something as simple as education can change everything. A constantly changing geopolitical environment has continued to place increasing amounts of emphasis on obtaining a post-secondary school education. Despite this, as many as 16% of all Americans ages 16-24 drop out before completing a secondary school education and obtaining a diploma.(1) The question which few dare to consider, which I now find myself faced with, is simple: how my education is the key to a successful future. To completely grasp the extent which my education may impact the future, in a positive manner, two things must fall into consideration- how education will ensure a successful future for myself, and how it may enable me to ensure a successful future for those around me.
