Street brawl after night out drinking
A POLICE officer stabbed and beat a close colleague during a quarrel on a street in Port of Spain on Tuesday night.
The attack took place after the two officers had a night out drinking and liming with some of their colleagues.
The group, all off duty, was walking along Independence Square when PC Sherwin Thomas, attached to the Police Band was assaulted.
Thomas said the reasons for the assault were unclear and the attack had nothing to do with either of them wanting to end their friendship.
Thomas was up to yesterday being treated at Ward 12 of the Port of Spain General Hospital.
His left forearm was broken in the attack and he had cuts to his face, ears, arms and the back of his head was burst.
He was slashed with a broken bottle.
Thomas said he had not made up his mind as to whether he was going to press charges against the officer who attacked him.
The constable who attacked Thomas is attached to the Planning and Development Unit and is stationed at the Police Administration Building, Sackville Street, Port of Spain.
Up to late yesterday he was in custody at the Central Police Station (CPS).
Up to midday no entries about the incident and the arrest of the constable had been made in the station diary at CPS, the Daily Express learned.
The attack took place just after 8 p.m., near the Unit Trust Corporation building on Independence Square.
Thomas and the officer who attacked him have been friends for the past two years.
He denied that the attack. as suggested by investigators was the result of a "domestic dispute".
"We have been friends for the past two years or so. I have my own place," Thomas said in an interview yesterday.
"That fallout scene was uncalled for.
Chuck’s special bond with Thomas flourished and began when he became Thomas’s first friend at the Glade. Chuck is more welcoming and fond of Thomas than the other boys seeing that he reassures Thomas constantly: “Don’t
When Thomas was five, his mother and father send him to the famous Abbe of Monte Cassino. At the abbey he became interested in the writings of Aristotle and the great Islamic philosopher Averroes of Cordoba. In time, Thomas decided that he wanted to join the Dominicans, but his parents wanted him to join the Benedictines. When Thomas joined the Dominicans, his outraged parents sent his brothers to capture him and bring him home. Once they had taken Thomas, they locked him in the castle of Monte San Giovanni. After being imprisoned for two years, his family set him free and he promptly returned to the
I think that Arnold believes that he broke Thomas’s heart during that fateful night when Arnold accidently killed Thomas’s parents. I personally don’t believe that Thomas sees himself as being “broken,” but in the eyes of Arnold he

Police officers abuse of their power and use excessive force against people which most of the time isn’t necessary. In the case of Richard Moore, two Toronto police officers beat him leaving him with fractured ribs and a severe cut to the skull because he was running in the streets allegedly drunk and they wanted to save him from running across the street and harming himself. The results from the hospital indicated that there wasn’t even any alcohol in Moore’s system therefore the police honestly had no reason to beat him up like that. This just goes to prove that police officers don’t think twice about their actions and often use excessive force when it isn’t necessary.
When law enforcement officers use excessive force when making an arrest or dealing with the public, this is known as police brutality. As one of the biggest police departments in America, the New York Police Department often finds itself in the midst of police brutality cases. Officers are allowed to use some force to restrain a suspect, make an arrest, prevent an escape, or defend themselves. However, there is a fine line that cannot be crossed when it comes to using force. Landing on the other side of that police brutality line can potentially put an officer in trouble, and may even cost him his job.
To citizens, Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown of out racial prejudice. To police officers, Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown out of self defense. The media focused mainly on the citizens negative reactions, consequently labeling Darren Wilson as a racist murderer. The officer received numerous death threats, putting his life in danger. Ben Brumfield and Brian Todd, reporters for CNN state, “Fellow officers have been by [Darren Wilson’s] side day and night, as deadly threats have driven the former Ferguson police officer into hiding…” This is a prime example that media can ruin the lives of officers, as well as put them in legitimate
This is because it only takes a day or two for caring parents to figure out where their missing children are. Thomas does not seem to have any support at all because we do not see any follow up to have him reconciled with classmates and enrolled back in school and at the same time, the only thing he liked to do (drawing) was faced with negative criticism from the stepfather. He goes ahead and states that he has tried marijuana and alcohol, which means he was trying to get rid of negative feelings due to all the circumstances surrounding
It is well known that there were always people who conducted crimes but not always there was a police to stop them. The word itself (Police) means officers who are in charge of peace or are employed for this purpose. Britain’s police history varies more than other countries and even nowadays their appearance does not look anything alike to other police forces in the world. Everything started around 2000 years ago when Saxons brought their own form of police into Britain and let’s see how it diverse over the years.
...ce afterwards” (Alexie). This quote shows that Thomas has become less persistent as he finally creates a new story to tell.
February 26, 1993, the day that terrorists made the biggest attack on American soil to that point. It was early afternoon on a Friday, 12:18 pm to be exact, a car bomb ripped through the guts of the now infamous North World Trade Center twin tower. It happened very quickly, and without warning, normal people were simply going about their daily business, when all of a sudden, the building shook, the power went out, and smoke began to fill all 110 floors of the towers. Many wondered what had happened, had a plane struck the building, was it an earthquake? D, none of the above, some crazed maniac had decided to kill 5 people and injure many more just to get some point across.
Through connecting with his former best friend, Victor was able travel to Phoenix to reclaim his father’s ashes and belongings. During the trip we see Thomas and Victor reminisce about their former days as friends, and although at the end they both agreed that they could not be friends, they gained a deeper understanding of each other. Even though Victor could not say it, deep down, he knew that his best friend was in fact Thomas.
There is not a possibility that John Wallace and Mr. Tom Bee can be friends. Being friends with someone requires a healthy friendship by being loyal, forgiving, and kind. A definition of a friend is a person whom one knows and with whomever with a bond. For example, being friends with someone actually requires trust, bonding, loyalty to each other, and of course no secrets. But sometimes being friends with someone doesn’t last like two people named John Wallace and Mr. Tom Bee.
According to the National Police Academy, in the past year, there have been over 7,000 reports of police misconduct; fatalities have been linked to more than 400 of these cases (Gul). Police brutality is often triggered by disrespect towards the police officer. The most noticeable form of brutality is physical, where Chemical gas, batons, tasers, and guns, can be used for physical intimidation or to actually hurt people. Police brutality can also take the form of verbal abuse or psychological intimidation. It seems reasonable to understand that sometimes the police are put into situations where excessive force may be needed. But, because some officers use these extreme actions in situations when it is not, police brutality should be addressed and looked into by both the police and the public. For instance, a police officer who beats a nonviolent protester with a baton would probably be accused of excessive use of force, under the argument that the police officer probably could have dealt with the situation less violently.
