For my graduation project, I chose the career option of being a police officer. Since I was a child I have always wanted to be a police officer when I grow up. My neighbors and I always use to play cops and robbers growing up, and I would always want to be the cop. I would also and still always watch the show “Cops”. I like the show because it is very interesting and I could see myself pursuing that career. That is where it all started.
Being a police officer means that you are willing to sacrifice your life for the well-being of others. Police officers are responsible for enforcing and abiding by the laws of the United States.
A basic level police officer job is usually driving around on patrol looking for any sort of crime or illegal activity that is going on. A police officer’s day is usually not as dangerous and exciting as shown on tv or movies. Most officers spend their time patrolling neighborhoods or on traffic duty. They are required to patrol areas on foot, motorcycle, bicycle, or in a police car. This helps them complete their tasks for the day. Police officers need to become familiar with the area they are assigned and know any existing conflicts. Officers always need to be prepared to get a call for service at any point in the day. Police officers experience many different types of situations such as injuries, public disturbance, or a serious crime. Basic occurrences they are called to include assaults, domestic disputes, robberies, car accidents, fires, and noisy parties. I also know a lot about being a Police Officer because I have a couple of Officers in my family and i talk to them about how they got started and what it is like to be out every day protecting peoples lives and so on, and I also know a lot of information because i have watched the show Cops a lot growing up and they have some good information on what it is like to be a Police Officer. After High School I plan on attending at Northampton Community College for two years to study a degree in Criminal Law to get started on my future on becoming a Police Officer at whatever town or city i can get accepted to. I think I have a pretty good shot at making as a Police Officer because I am willing to work hard everyday to give myself an advantage over all the other trainees at the Police Academy. Although the first police force in the modern sense came to be over 250 years ago, the purpose they had is the same as today. There are many different things that an officer has to deal with while working has a police officer. First thing is the work schedule its not always easy when you have to work 40 to 50 hours a week for work and you have a family at home you have to make time for. Also you have college and other things that are in your daily routine. So keeping your schedule balanced is one of your challenges of being a police officer. A police officer’s duty is to maintain public order, preventing, and detecting crime. The concept of police officers, also known as cops, and law enforcement has been around ever since the ancient Romans had a theory that an organization of “peacekeepers” would reduce the crime and violence being committed. This theory stuck with society and is still around today. People of law enforcement have a mission when they step into their police car, that mission is to enforce the rules of conduct or law. Of course, accomplishing this mission can be dangerous. Often when a cop leaves his or her house to go to work worries start to set it, such as “will I be coming back home when my day is over” or “will a simple traffic stop go sour and someone ends up dead?” These thoughts are apart of the stress that comes with the job and most people are trained to deal with this stress.

A law enforcement officer, one who is honest and dedicated to his profession, has to remain in perfect physical and mental condition, and never let his guard down. He has to survive on black coffee and half-eaten meals and be able to deal with heinous crimes, coax a confession out of a hardened criminal, and be a source of comfort to a victim's family.
