Police Brutality
Police brutality is the deliberate use of excessive force, usually physical, carried out during law enforcement activities with the population. This type of behavior also includes verbal attacks and psychological intimidation by a police officer. Widespread police brutality exists in many countries, even those that prosecute it. It is one of several forms of police misconduct, which include: false arrest; intimidation; racial profiling; political repression; surveillance abuse; sexual abuse; and police corruption. Although illegal, it can be performed under the color of law. Many times the media runs the story and it’s only half of what actually happened or it is turned it a race situation. And many of those story lines do not look through the eyes of the police officer. How terrified they were when the pulled the trigger or how one thing turned out to be another. Instead we blame that one officer and that is that. We never dig a little deeper and look to both sides. If the suspect has a weapon, they want to try to defuse the situation and try to get everything under control. The problem is that cops aren’t held accountable for their actions, and they know it. These officers violate rights with impunity. They know there’s a different criminal justice system for civilians and police. Even when officers get caught, they know they’ll be investigated by their friends, and put on paid leave. This is a laugh for them. Officers who know that they can get away with police brutality will do it because they get no punishment for what they have done.
