According to dictionary.com, beauty is defined as “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit” (1). True beauty has been forgotten. All around the world people are paying thousands of dollars to have plastic surgery done to enhance this unreal beauty. Sadly, reality is that beauty is now seen as having the bigger breast, the perfect smile, zero body fat, and the perfectly chiseled nose. More and more people are turning to plastic surgery as a way to make them happy about their appearances and boost their self-esteem in a quick and easy process. But contrary to the belief that women are always the people choosing to undergo plastic surgery, the men in China actually get more procedures done than the women. “A large number of men are getting breast implants to make them look they have big muscles” (source 10 pg. 1). They also have eye lid surgery done to make them look younger (source 10 pg. 2). This younger look makes it easier for the men to get a job (source 10 pg. 2). It also helps them keep that job because they can handle the competition from the young and fresher looking job seekers. Women in China often go through painful leg extension surgery that can increase their height by nine centimeters (source 10 pg. 3). This procedure is to help make Chinese women, who are usually no taller than five feet, get jobs that they usually would not be able to have due to the height requirements associated with the job (source 10 pg. 2).
