Mark Tulton wrote in the article Model’s Death Highlights Plastic Surgery Risks” that “liposuction involving large volumes of fat is one of the highest-risk practices. Procedures involving more than six liters of liposuction usually require a blood transfusion” (Tulton 2). This quote demonstrates how high risk plastic or cosmetic surgery is. There are many bad things that can happen during a blood transfusion, which may result in death. Let’s talk about some of the possibilities from getting a blood transfusion and why it may cause death. The possibilities are both non-immune and immune reactions to the blood getting put inside of you, and also infections. One example of an non-immune allergic reaction is fluid overload. Fluid overload is when there is too much fluid in your body, and this can be dangerous to your health. In order to get rid of this doctors will have to give you medicines to increase how many times you urinate. An example of an immune reaction to a blood transfusion is a nonhemolytic fever, this is also the most common. This will cause a fever and chills, but hey on the bright side at least it doesn't destroy your red blood cells. An infection you can get from a blood transfusion is hepatitis B or C, or HIV. Once you get these, you're stuck with them your entire life. Another possibility is that the blood could be contaminated with bacteria or parasites. Don’t even get me …show more content…
Body Dysmorphic Disorder, or BDD for short, is a mentally illness involving obsessive focus on a perceived flaw in appearance. According to Katherine Phillips in Prevalence of BDD “more than five million people to about 7.5 million people in the U.S alone have BDD. BDD is about as common as obsessive compulsive disorder, (OCD), and more than common disorders such as anorexia nervosa and schizophrenia” Katherine lets us know just how many people already have BDD in America. The number is already so high and getting plastic cosmetic surgery will not help those numbers any bit. BDD is already out there and getting plastic cosmetic surgery only makes those numbers higher. Yagana Shah also wrote an article called 4 Good Reasons To Never Get Plastic Surgery. According to Shah “Body Dysmorphic Disorder affects under 5% Americans it affects up to 15% of cosmetic surgery patients” (Shah 1). This quote reveals that if you get plastic or cosmetic surgery you have a risk of getting BDD. It gives us a number of exactly how many people who get plastic or cosmetic surgery are affected. Getting plastic or cosmetic surgery to fix an issue is a way to develop BDD, and it is very real that you may develop BDD. In brief, getting plastic or cosmetic surgery is bad because it furthers your chance of getting BDD because so many Americans already have it so it is not a taboo

Teenagers take extreme measures in order to “fix” themselves (by having Plastic surgery). Plastic Surgery is a surgical process used to repair deformities and glitches in a persons body. Nowadays, teenagers tend to have plastic surgeries to improve physical characteristics they feel are flawed and/or to fit in with peers, to look similar to others. In fact, it is only the pressure that has been put upon these minors that makes them want to look flawless or perfect in order to feel comfortable in their own skin and avoid any unwanted judgments. Most teenagers are not mature enough to clearly understand the problems and consequences that are accompanied with cosmetic surgery. Therefore, cosmetic surgery should not be allowed for minors.
Cosmetic surgery is essentially not a bad thing. Some people suffer facial and body injuries or are born with a deformity which can only be corrected by plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgery can also be a life saver in cases of extreme obesity. However, some people-especially young females- are becoming too obsessed with their looks and body. The quest of finding the perfect body has led many to the operating table, opting for multiple cosmetic surgeries.
Everyone in today’s society has pressure put on themselves because of the way they look. No matter if you are the most gorgeous/handsome person on this planet, that specific person has their own faults with their image. Financial success now a days puts pressure on others image. For instance, for women to work at “Twin Peaks,” “Hooters,” “Bone Daddy’s,” “Bombshells,” or any of the other sports bars, you either have to have one of the following, “Boobs, butt, pretty face, or a flat stomach.” If you are hired with one or the other, let’s face it… you will get talked about and or made fun of. As for men, it is pretty much the same. Just as the new “Tallywackers” that opened up in Dallas. People (women mostly) that go into the restaurant, get to choose their server before they sit down. To others that is completely unfair, because their body image depends on their pay that night. With how bad people are getting teased/bullied, changing to the opposite sex, getting plastic surgery and etc. no one seems to have tried to do anything about any of it. It is probably because we have all kinds of different ways with technology to make someone feel beautiful and good about themselves, that it does not need to be fixed. Though in some cases, others do not have money to do what
She could go on fad diets or constantly exercise but still won’t be satisfied with her body. It’s not just about having a model type body. She might not think she has enough curves or that her nose is too misshapen. With that being said, this influences the likelihood of changing one’s own appearance. Because of this, it is no surprise that cosmetic surgery is on the rise with teens. Many will argue that physically altering one’s body during adolescence has too many risks involved. Teenagers might not be fully committed to a procedure, might be prone to infection or just simply are not physically ready for surgery. Others will argue that plastic surgery is a personal choice, and as long as parental consent is given then it is the individual 's decision to do so. Although everyone has the right to do as they wish with their body, teenagers are not mentally and physically prepared for plastic surgery and should not undergo a procedure unless it is for reconstructive
Ideally cosmetic surgery was considered a procedure that adults underwent, but as time goes on younger adults are becoming candidates for cosmetic surgery. The primary reason behind this younger generation turning to cosmetic surgery is because they are dissatisfied with their body, and or weight. Often young girls are teased, and as a result their self-esteem is affected. Many turn to cosmetic surgery with the hopes of making themselves acceptable in the sight of their peers. Younger generations of women who make the decision to have cosmetic surgery performed tend to want to have breast augmentations, and buttock implants. A huge influencing factor that leads younger women to seek these type of cosmetic surgeries are related to music videos,
In addition to the many health risks, unnecessary societal pressure also adds on to the list of why plastic surgery should be banned. As oppose to spending thousands to hide their flaws, people should learn to love and live with them, as they are what essentially make them truly unique.
In conclusion, the benefits of cosmetic surgery differ between people and situations; any negative thoughts of others may have an effect on a person’s decision to have a procedure done, but it is for the patient to decide if changing their body is the right decision for them. Regardless of the influences on the younger generation, unrealistic ideologies of patients, and moral issues others may have, plastic surgery will continue to be a huge part of society. However, society should be focusing on how to encourage others to seek happiness in whatever they seem fit, rather than choose to destroy the aspirations of others who choose to build a perfect body for
The surgeons could mess up something and it could cause deformities or infection in the body. If you lose too much blood during surgery that can lead to fatal organ failure. All these things that could happen could make you fall into depression. Even know there is advantages of plastic surgery there is more disadvantages of plastic surgery than advantages. Typically when having surgery done, people will weigh the risk of the surgery against against the suspected health improvement. However, when having cosmetic surgery done, there is no health improvement. There is actually no improvement at all except to the patients mental views on themselves. There are many risks when having plastic surgery that are often overlooked by patients because the surgery is being preformed by doctors. Doctors aren’t here to harm us, but heal us, so having a certified person in a white coat cut you open to put implants in you, could’t be harmful could it? Unfortunately, it easily could. “It’s well known that breast implants of many types can cause burning pain, loss of sensation, hardening of breast tissue and serious infection. One woman who suffered complications from implants has filed a petition with the Scottish government urging adoption of such a ban. An argument could even be made that aesthetic surgery violates the Hippocratic oath [taken by medical doctors] because it carries a potential for harm without curing or preventing disease.”(Edmonds) A French company named Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) is known for having faulty breast implants. The PIP’s are known to rupture more easily and are full of an industrial grade of silicone that was never intended for use in the medical
