There is a common misconception that Planned Parenthood is a center for abortions, and that is it. The truth is, only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s services relate to abortions. Planned Parenthood receives $500 million in federal funding and it is illegal to spend any of that money on abortion services. In CNN ’s article, "Planned Parenthood, by the Numbers”, there are clear statistics about how Planned Parenthood manages the money they receive and how a majority of their work focuses on
When one contemplates the concept of eugenics, few think of modern contraception and abortion when in reality they are one in the same. The American Eugenics Society, founded in 1923, proudly proclaimed that men with incurable “conditions” should be sterilized. However these conditions were often none that could be helped, such as, one’s intelligence, race, and social class (Schweikart and Allen 529-532). The purpose of the society was to create the perfect class of men; elite in all ways. Likewise, Margaret Sanger’s feminist, contraceptive movement was not originally founded with this purpose. It was marketed as a way to control the population and be merciful to those yet to be born, again determined also by race and intelligence. The similarities in purpose actually brought the two organizations together to form a “liberating movement” to “aid women” known today as Planned Parenthood (Schweikart and Allen 529-532). The name may sound harmless, but the movement hid a darker purpose, to wean out the lower and less educated in order to create a perfect class.
It is undoubted that we are exposed to more open and activating political environment today than ever. We talk about 2016 presidency election, criticize those candidates’ political claims, argue about political issues and disdain those who belong to different “side” with us. And it is under this social context that Planned Parenthood, all of a sudden, is dragged into the political spotlight.
With the help of United States Government funding, Planned Parenthood and its affiliates have been men and women’s health care providers since 1933. Congressional bills have recently been written to defund this organization because of ethical issues that have risen about abortions carried out in these facilities. The defunding of Planned Parenthood would not only take away affordable family planning for those in need, but the ability to provide life saving cancer screenings and other health services as well.
The war against Planned Parenthood has escalated in the past 5 year by anti abortion/Pro life groups. They view Planned Parenthood as a place that is against their religion, kill innocent children, and hook teens to sex for their business. "Planned Parenthood is one of the most insidious organizations in the country," says Ann Scheidler, co-founder of the Pro-Life Action League. "Ever since its founding, it has sought to undermine the integrity of the family, to facilitate immoral behavior … and to lead teenagers into really risky behavior. It 's largely responsible for the breakdown of morality in the country" (Mendoza, 2). This can all be found on a website called stopp.org. It is an website for an Pro-life christian organization and their plan to stop Planned Parenthood. On another anti Planned Parenthood website they wrote,
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that aims to provide healthcare for women and educate people of all ages about sexual education. Their website (www.plannedparenthood.org) allows both women and men to learn about reproductive health, find a health center, and discover more about the “mission” of Planned Parenthood. “Virginity” (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/teens/sex/virginity) is the title of one of the articles in the Info For Teens section of the website. This article loosely defines virginity and addresses some of the common fears teens may have about the subject. Another article, “Am I Ready?” (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/teens/sex/am-i-ready), serves to give advice to those who are thinking about having sex for the first time, or just being physically intimate with another person for the first time. Both of these articles leave very little out in terms of different sexualities, genders, and other minority groups. They also both explore the ways power relationships (in this case, boyfriend and girlfriend) can affect sexual relationships. As a result, Planned Parenthood creates information that can be applied to almost any person, male or female,
Planned Parenthood is a trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world. Planned Parenthood delivers “vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of women, men, and young people worldwide” (Planned Parenthood). The funding that the Trump Administration took away from did not stop them from their cause. Planned Parenthood is the number one organization that supports this topic, partnering with them will help me propose my claim. “ Whether talking with members of Congress, parents, or faith leaders, or arguing cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, we fight for commonsense policies that promote women's health, allow individuals to prevent unintended pregnancies through access to affordable contraception, and protect the health of young people by providing them with comprehensive sex education ” (Planned Parenthood). Getting a lot of supporters for this issue of convincing pro-life that they are wrong with the evidence-based material will provide many more
The word ‘philanthropic’ is such a broad term. It cannot be defined in simple terms because it is a complicated interrelationship of many components. Those components include hope, humanity, compassion, faith, and an intense truth, especially of the human spirit. It can be said that philanthropy is a methodical plan of sincere intentions on making the world a better place for the better good.
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that is government funded and offers free health care, sex education, and family planning to millions of women all over the country. (“Who We Are”) The organization was founded by Margaret Sanger in the 1960’s. Her mission was to provide free health care to women all across the nation despite their race, ethnic background, income, etc. She also vowed to educate and care for women’s sexual health while maintaining their privacy. As of late, Planned Parenthood has been a target of controversy, with a possibility of being defunded. Why or why not should the government continue to fund this organization?
The Progressive Era was a period of social and political reform beginning in the post Gilded Age 19th century and lasting through WWI. Industrial and urban growth of early 19th century America while representative of opportunity and future advancement simultaneously posed many difficulties for working class citizens. Prior concerns over the conditions of working class citizens were multiplied and magnified by overpopulated and impoverished urban communities. During this era many new Progressive agendas were introduced with the goal of reforming dated and unregulated policies, the most prominent of these, the birth control movement. The documents from chapter six of Constructing the American Past show that at its core, the birth control debate was a multifaceted social dispute with, religious political and racial influences.
Because many people consider philanthropy to be a completely voluntary or discretionary aspect of corporate social responsibility, failure to be philanthropic is generally not considered as unethical; some may question whether it is a corporate ‘‘responsibility’’ at all. (Brian K. 2005) The caring approach seems much more realistic to use in terms of how people in business actually make decisions, as well as how they should make decisions. Managerial experience and observation of managers leads to conclude that morally and economically effective managers consider possible effects on other individuals, not amorphous groups, unless those groups are very homogeneous in nature. These managers think about themselves as well as others. When faced with conflicts they try to find the actions that fit the particular situation the best, intuitively understanding that each situation is different and deserves full consideration itself, and not some
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, an organization founded by Margaret Sanger in 1916, receives $500 million in federal funding every year. Mission statement: A reason for being. Planned Parenthood is one of the nation's prominent providers of inexpensive health care for women, men, and young people, and the country’s biggest provider of sex education (“Planned Parenthood at a Glance,” 2014).
Women’s health care coverage hangs by a string while the repeal and replace of Obamacare is conducted. Certain benefits women obtain from health care may be omitted as pregnancy before the repeal and replace of Obamacare is seen as a pre-existing condition. Obamacare funds certain programs, such as planned parenthood; however, if replaced, this could drastically affect the amount of money women have to pay for what they offer for free. The repeal and replace of Obamacare negatively affects the health care coverage of women through halting the funds for planned parenthood and the effects of labeling pregnancy before the new health care bill as a pre-existing condition.
The first reason is that abortion services should not cause Planned Parenthood to lose its funding is because they are only three percent of all the services that Planned Parenthood provides. Not only that but there are some Planned Parenthood clinics that do not provide abortion services, but were still defunded. If the fact that Planned Parenthood provides abortion services is the only argument a person has against the organization then they should be able to accept keeping the clinics that do not provide abortions open simply because of the other services they offer such as STD testing, cancer screenings, and access to contraceptives. If someone against Planned Parenthood is concerned about the federal funding because they don’t want their tax money going towards abortion, then they don’t need to worry. Planned Parenthood does not use any of its federal funding for abortion services. Planned Parenthood should not be defunded simply because it provides abortion services since not all clinics provide abortion services in the first place and even if they do they provide many other beneficial reproductive health services that should not be
As a part of overall business strategy, organizations undertake philanthropic efforts as a means of marketing and promoting social responsibility. As a tool that business executives can utilize to drive corporate goals, philanthropy not only helps to support communities, but also empowers employees and creates excitement in the workplace towards a common purpose (Muller, Pfarrer, & Little, 2014). Philanthropy is also big business, particularly in the United States of America. Through a survey conducted on 2013 donations, the Aluminum giant Alcoa and its foundation donated 12.1% of its profits, equating to $39 million dollars. Conversely, Walmart donated only 1.4% of its corporate profits, but this amounted to
