Pictures are memories to lots of people. No matter if its going to a party, graduation, or celebration people want to remember these things. When photographers take pictures they want to make people leap with joy, cry with sorrow, stomp with anger, or sigh with relaxation. What ever the emotion the photographer has accomplished their goal, to make people feel something. Kind of like movie directors, photographers want people to walk away thinking their art changed them some way. Even if its just changes the way they look at trees or clouds something's different. Using their technical expertise, creativity, and composition skills to produce and preserve images, photographers can visually tell a story or record an event with just one snap of a camera (“Photographer’s” U.S. para. 1). If someone wants to be a photographer they must know how to use photo enhancing software, keep a digital portfolio, and learn photographic techniques (“Photographer’s” U.S. para. 8). Photographers take numerous pictures; however, most are pictures of schools, weddings, cars, cloths, buildings, animals, and some take picture for school textbooks (“Photographer” Career para. 3). Even though many people believe there is only one type of photographer, there are actually about eight (“Photographer’s”, U.S. para. 10). Portrait, commercial, industrial, aerial, scientific, news, fine arts, and university are all types of photographers (“Photographers”, U.S. para.10). If someone wants to be a photographer they have to know how to persuade the customer to buy the photos(“Photographer” what’s para.5). Photographers don't want to compel someone to buy their pictures; however, they will try and convince them(“Photographer” what’s para.5). In order to succeed... ... middle of paper ... ...their job is to make lots of money. People can be happy by simply doing what they enjoy. Money isn’t the only thing in the world and if people try to be happy, they will be. A photographer's job is to change something and if they work hard they can. Practiced by thousands who shared no common tradition or training from the earliest days of taking photos, the first photographers were disciplined and united by no academy or guild, who considered their medium variously as a trade, a science, an art, or an entertainment, and who often were unaware of each other’s work. Exactly as it sounds photography means photo-graphing. The word photography comes from two Greek words, photo, or “light”, and graphos, or drawing and from the start of photography; the history of the aforementioned has been debated. The idea of taking pictures started some thirty-one thousand years ago when strikingly sophisticated images of bears, rhinoceroses, bison, horses and many other types of creators were painted on the walls of caves found in southern France. Former director of photography at New Yorks museum of modern art says that “The progress of photography has been more like the history of farming, with a continual stream of small discoveries leading to bigger ones, and in turn triggering more experiments, inventions, and applications while the daily work goes along uninterrupted.” ˡ
Most photographers have a statement in mind and look for a picture that expresses it. Erwitt observes what life wants to say and then records it so others can hear. For me this is what photography is about. I believe a scene should inspire you not be staged. Like Erwitt’s work I try to take pic...
Wedding is the events that take place just once in the life of a human, but remains the most memorable one as well. This takes people look forward towards making this event the best of all and different and most prominent by all means. Choosing the best remains the clear criterion of the couple and their relatives. This makes them look for the best photographers as well. The choice of photographer is more critical then the choice of caterer or wedding planner. The idea behind this is that the planners, organizers and all others just set up the wedding for that day only, but the photographer captures these moments and saves them forever for the couple and the
Photography allows us to maintain memories and relish them whenever we desire. Although some advocates might argue that people are no longer enjoying experiences instead taking more pictures, in the essay, “Why We Take Pictures”, by Susan Sontag, she conflates that photography can be used as a defense against anxiety and a tool of empowerment. I agree with Sontag on the significance of photographs and how it allows us to store a part of our extended relatives so we are able to hold on the memories of family. Therefore, we must appreciate how photography allows us to manage anxiety, express feelings and remember our loved ones.
Photography is the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface as film or an optical sensor, (Webster). Over the years, photography has grown, and evolved, and impacted our lives more than ever. It can evoke emotions, and force us to act… by seeing photographs of war, or child labor the need to stop war and child labor is brought to life. It can be a matter of life or death; it can save our lives. Such as when you go to a doctor and they take a scan of your brain or body, and find cancer or a tumor you didn’t know you had but could affect your life. It can even change your life for the better… when you get an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat of your new baby for the first
When going for a walk, a person takes in the beauty around them. On this particular day, the refulgent sun is extra bright, making the sky a perfect blue. White, puffy clouds fill the sky, slowing moving at their own pace. The wind is peacefully calm, making the trees stand tall and proud. There is no humidity in the air. As this person walks down the road, they see a deer with her two fawns. The moment is absolutely beautiful. Moments like this happen only once in a great while, making us wanting to stay in the particular moment forever. Unfortunately, time moves on, but only if there were some way to capture the day’s magnificence. Thanks to Joseph Niépce, we can now capture these moments and others that take our breath away. The invention of the camera and its many makeovers has changed the art of photography.
To begin with, photography appeared to me as something entertaining a simple step in which one took a camera and simply shot a photograph of oneself or a friend. When I was handed my schedule for Mrs. Jones’s class, I felt as if this class had in store a special reward for me. As the days went by, Instead of being anxious of getting out of class I had a craving for additional time in the class. The class kept my eyes glued to the screen ...
loosening the spesific creativity in each picture. When people see the major mass of photos
Have you ever seen a painting or picture that captivates you and directly stirs up emotion within you? More than likely, you have. Usually, viewers merely observe the picture and enjoy the way it looks and how it makes them feel. But, have you ever asked yourself, “why?” What about the picture makes it pleasing to the viewer? With each strategy the photographer uses creates their own touch and passion that floods all over the picture. The emotional connection nearly goes unnoticed for when the picture is well photographed, the viewers experience the sensation in their subconscious. This is one of the most powerful tools that a photographer holds in their hands. If one can become a master of manipulating how the photo affects its viewers, the said photographer can potentially maneuver people’s minds and thoughts with one click of a button. The time spent with my mentor has opened up the door for me to tap into that power though the use of background, focus, shutter speed, angles, and most importantly, lighting. Even with all these techniques, the person behind the camera must remember that creativity must be at the forefront of all operations. Caleno (2014), when writing about the basics of capturing a beautiful moment in a picture commented, “If we want to be creative we must drop these pre-conceptions and start looking at things from a small child’s innocence.”
Photojournalism is a specific form of journalism that employs the use of images to form a news story that meaningfully contributes to the media. This allows a photographer to capture stills that tell the story of a moment in time. Photojournalism creates a transparency between the media and the people as it depicts an accurate representation where meaning can be misinterpreted through text. Photojournalism largely contributes to the way we understand the reality of a moment. Becker (1982) supports this concept as he compares photography to paintings. He says that paintings get their meaning from the painters, collectors, critics, and curators; therefore photographs get their meaning from the way people understand them and use them. Photojournalist’s
What do you consider art? Paintings, sculptures, drawings, or maybe something else. I know, when I think of art, I think of photography. Photography Is used for business, science, manufacturing, art, recreational purposes, mass communication, and more. Photography is using light to do amazing things, and some people think of photography as a story that just needs to be told. Ansel Adams probably believed this. He said, “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” Photography has a long interesting history, like the fact that the word photography is made up of two greek words, photos meaning ‘light’ and graphein which is ‘to draw’ ! Photography also has some complicated techniques to get a hang of taking good photos. Have you heard of the rule of thirds? Or do you know how a camera works? Well, that will all be explained. Maybe, by the end you will take up photography too. This essay will explore the history and types of cameras and the basic rules for taking photographs.
out customers out of the traditional photography, helped to create a new market and value
In Sontag’s On Photography, she claims photography limits our understanding of the world. Though Sontag acknowledges “photographs fill in blanks in our mental pictures”, she believes “the camera’s rendering of reality must always hide more than it discloses.” She argues photographs offer merely “a semblance of knowledge” on the real world.
Photography as a profession has developed along with the advancements of camera technology. Photographers can be seen everywhere, whether they are highly advanced or a just a mere amatuer. Many people find a living in this business by taking professional photographs for families, sports events, and even the traditional senior pictures.
Prior to this course, I knew photography was a part of my every day life. After experiencing this course, I know I knew little about photography. Photography is definitely part of my life, but as I reflect on my sixteen-week progression, I realize that everyone can take a picture but “taking a photograph” as an art. My initial thoughts were that with smart phones we are all “photographers” sharing and it has become part of our visual culture, but not all photos deserve appreciation. Although I believed I had an eye for interesting things and liked to shoot pictures from angles or interesting features, I realized that knowing more about the functions and diversity a quality camera could provide was missing. Photography has been a vital part of my personal history and now will be a bigger part of my life as I am armed with knowledge and experience with angles, lighting, settings and Photoshop so the memories I capture will have a stronger purpose. Point and shoot has transitioned into a passion for finding interest in a subject and utilizing my knowledge to create artful photos. Ordinary or standard shots will be a part of my past. Reflecting on my interest in photography as a potential path for my future, or a part of an overall career choice, I realized that if I continue on a public relations or marketing path, photography will be a critical part of my career. Photography 181 has given me invaluable information that will be carried on into my future in both business and personal arenas. My place in photography will continue to include sports action photography as I am an athlete and appreciate these, as well as in editorial or brand image photography as part of my career.
