Physics is the subject I want to study for at least the next four years. I have found it the most interesting, and certainly one of the most challenging areas of all my previous study. I see a Masters degree in physics as allowing me to build upon my accumulated knowledge; to learn entirely new fields of the subject, and to give me the qualifications that I need in order to pursue my goal to do work in research and development.
Aside from the work we are set as part of the advanced level course, I verymuch appreciate discussing sidelines from the core of the course, or applications of the theories we have learned, with friends or with teachers. I enjoy this aspect of physics, and physics in general because (borrowing a concept of David Deutsch) I very much enjoy understanding things, not merely memorising facts. Discussing a principle with someone is satisfying because it presents me with different and new ways of seeing, and understanding theories I already know in another form.
In my spare time I enjoy reading popular science, as well as science fiction(my favourite authors are Michael Marshall Smith and Neal Stephenson), composing and playing music, computer programming, jogging and writing poetry. In addition, as I have international roots, I have had the opportunity to travel widely, both independently and with family through Europe and North America.
As a part time job, and a hobby, I earn money through a small webpublishing and computer consultancy company of my own. I have 8 years of experience of computer programming in C++, Assembly, HTML and BASIC, under Windows and Linux environments.
In conclusion, I see a university course in physics as offering me a way toenhance and expand my understanding of reality in completely new ways then the classical physics courses I have studied thus far have done.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Heather Smith; I'm 18 years old and am a senior at Suttons Bay High School. I was born and raised here and have attended Suttons Bay Schools for 13 years. My hobbies include playing socer, spending time with ym friends, music, art, snowboarding, biking, working out and traveling. Six years ago I startedmy love of travel when I had the opportunity to travel on a 16-day European History trip to the countries of England, France, Italy, Switzerland and germany with family and friends. Last summer I traveled to Spain with my school's Spanish club, and in March I went to Mexico. I speak Spanish and plan on continuing my studies at Michigan State University this fall. I find that traveling is so interesting as it gives me the chance to see how others live and experience their culture.
Witchcraft accusations began in Massachusetts after people began to say that they saw others with different symptoms which includes “fits”, “spectral visions”, “mental distraction”, “pinching, pin pricking, and bites”, “lethargy”, and “death” (Carlson, xiii). These accusations spread rapidly and took off within Massachusetts due to the large number of people living in the area. The large population allowed for the idea of witchcraft to spread because of how rapidly the large population heard of these allegations. Through the word of mouth, friends told friends, family members told other family members, neighbors spoke among each other, community members were updated through each other. This is what caused the idea of witchcraft to gain so much momentum.

The hysteria of the witchcraft episode in Salem, Massachusetts developed over two years during the late 1690’s. One of the primary causes that contributed to the deaths of one hundred and twenty-six people, were the young village girls called the “afflicted”, who accused the women of the village of witchcraft. The majority of the accused and accusers were females while the males of the village held the important roles of trial and jury during these times.

Iraq is flat and dry, Serbia is very mountainous and rainy. This means it is much more difficult to find and destroy targets.
In addition to my academic interest, I also draw, paint, and sculpt in my free time and have taken classes dedicated to this interest. While most might not feel as if that sets them apart, I have used my creativity and abilities in the fine arts to my advantage. My creative edge allows me to carry out creative solutions to problems and labs in class that most others might not realize as a solution. Because of art, I have developed the mindset of analyzing problems by looking at the bigger picture and not only looking at the problem in real life but theoretically.
Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, on December 25, 1642. He was educated at Trinity College in Cambridge, and resided there from 1661 to 1696 during which time he produced the majority of his work in mathematics. During this time New ton developed several theories, such as his fundamental principles of gravitation, his theory on optics otherwise known as the Lectiones Opticae, and his work with the Binomial Theorem. This is only a few theories that that Isaac Newton contributed to the world of mathematics. Newton contributed to all aspects of mathematics including geometry, algebra, and physics.

Throughout my educational experience, I’ve found that I thrive best in the most advanced courses where less time is spent on learning information and more time is spent on discussion. For example, in my IB HL Math course students are encouraged to discover new theorems and tools through teamwork and class discussion rather than just being given these new theorems and tools. This has allowed me to understand calculus on a deeper level and has made it one of my favorite courses. My other classes operate similarly in that students lead the discussion while the teacher observes and occasionally moves the discussion along. Students are encouraged to connect curricula across subjects, such as when we discuss physics in math, human rights in biology, or psychology in literature. The interdisciplinary and challenging courses offered through Stony Brook’s Honors College will allow me to take courses like the ones I’ve
Physics can be found in all aspects of our lives and the world around us including the activities in which we find the most enjoyment. They may not be noticeable to the naked eye or even to our senses but they are there and when we become familiar with the concepts of physics then we began to ‘see’ physics everywhere.
It creates "environments and experiences that bring students to discover and construct knowledge for themselves, and helps make students members of communities of learners that make discoveries and solve problems," according to researchers Barr and Tagg (1995).*
Computer games have steadily become a form of mainstream entertainment ever since Pong was released back in 1958. Today, it is hard to find an electronics department in any store that doesn't carry some sort of computer game. "Big deal," you say, "Everyone knows about computer games. What does they have to do with physics?" Well, the technology for creating more powerful software is constantly advancing, and since games are a form of software, they too become more and more advanced. As games become more advanced, game developers aim to create games that offer a more realistic experience. The technology has advanced to such a stage that making the games look real is no problem, but making a truly immersive experience is something different. That's where physics comes in.
During the seventeenth century, the modern science of physics started to emerge and become a widespread tool used around the world. Many prominent people contributed to the build up of this fascinating field and managed to generally define it as the science of matter and energy and their interactions. However, as we know, physics is much more than that. It explains the world around us in every form imaginable. The study of physics is a fundamental science that helps the advancing knowledge of the natural world, technology and aids in the other sciences and in our economy. Without the field of physics, the world today would be a complete mystery, everything would be different because of the significance physics has on our life as individuals and as a society.
Math is a subject has always and will continue to pulled my interests. This was because it was a subject that would lead me to a single unique answer. Once I started to attend high school, physics then opened up another interest, not only with math, but an interest in Math with actual application into the real world. With physics, it allowed me to see how math could be used to predict events. The classes that I have taken that has shaped my interests for my major of science in mathematics are Physics, and Computer Science.
This evaluation has not only allowed me explore calculus more in depth, but also physics, and the way the world works. This has personally allowed me to explore the connections between math and real-world situations, which is hard to find in textbooks.
