The occupation that I would like to research is Physical Therapy. I personally chose Physical Therapy because I have experienced it myself and I believe I would enjoy doing this for the rest of my life. Physical Therapy is in Health Sciences cluster. In the Health Sciences field Physical Therapy falls under Therapeutic Services and Health Informatics. When I did my Nebraska Career Connections interests test I scored the highest in Therapeutic Services. I then filled out a skills inventory and it ranked number four on that assessment. Considering I scored highly in both occupations means that this occupation is good for me as of right now. An average day for a Physical Therapist is them going to work at at a private office, hospital, or a …show more content…
I will probably live in a larger city and that would mean that there would be multiple places to pursue a career in Physical Therapy as there is a wide range of places to work. I would prefer to work in a hospital setting where I would be able to see a mix of patients from children to the elderly. I would also not mind having my own office and working with only one or two other Physical Therapists. If I were to not pursue a career in Physical Therapy I have a few backup options. My first choice would be a Physician Assistant. While it still requires a lot of schooling I believe I would still like to do something involved with people and I believe I would be able to help people with this occupation. That occupation would also allow me to support my family very well. Another occupation I would enjoy doing would be is an orthopedic surgeon. One of the main reasons it is not my number one option is because of all the extra schooling it has compared to Physical Therapy. The bright side is I would be able to easily support my family with that occupation. The last occupation that I would consider would be an allergist. I think I would enjoy being an allergist, because much like a doctor, I would be able to find out why they are suffering their problems, and I would be able to prescribe things to alleviate their
Most people want to work in the healthcare world because most healthcare providers make around $80,000 and up to even $650,000 dollars. However, it does not matter. Becoming a physical therapist is not about the money, it's about the patient and the love you have to heal people. Being a physical therapist is also a social job, it's not like your regular doctor you make checkup with and barely speak to. Your physical therapist knows he is going to get paid but the main reason for being the therapist is to bring joy back into people's heart. This profession is allowing a patient to avoid surgery, and to educate them and their fellow colleagues The purpose of the career is to help, not to worry about how much money you're going to make if you see thirteen patients a day or what your salary going to look
Physical therapists can either specialize in specific areas, like paralysis or orthopedics, or they can treat a broad range of needs. Physical therapy is divided into three basic categories: acute care, neuro-rehab, and outpatient physical therapy. I am particularly interested in acute care, which involves treating patients in the hospital setting. Acute care involves treating patients following surgery, restoring patients' physical activity following an accident or illness, and helping patients to overcome disabilities. Teaching home exercises, preparing rehab programs, and explaining how to use assistive devices are the acute care therapist's main jobs. On the other hand, neuro-rehab physical therapists deal with patients who have long-term injuries, such as spinal cord injuries. Finally, outpatient physical therapists are usually self-employed and generally treat patients in the home. ("Information" 7) All three types of physical therapists perform the same general tasks. The goal of physical therapy is to help patien...
Occupational therapy was a career choice I fell into. When I first arrived to Keiser University back in 2009 I was going to apply for the physical therapy assistant program. Physical and speech therapy where the only therapeutic disciplines I had any knowledge of at that time. When I met with the admissions counselor she informed me the waiting list for the PTA program was about two years, I was floored I wasn’t going to wait that long I needed to start school ASAP. The counselor then asked me “ what is your goal?” and my response was “to work with children in the medical field without being too medically involved”. She then handed me an occupational therapy pamphlet and I just signed the paper work to start that month. I honestly
After four semester of perusing a degree in the engineering field, I came to a realization that this is not a career that I was truly passionate about. It lacked the personal connection that I want in a lifelong career. My high school interest and fondness of anatomy and physical fitness led me to the tract of Kinesiology, and soon to the path of becoming a physical therapist. Physical Therapy is an occupation that allows me to work one on one with someone, and create a bond that is rarely ever formed in any other occupation. The opportunity to watch as you care and assist your patient back to their initial physical capacity is an experience that I am sure will always make you appreciate your field of work. I would be more than honored if
Not only is physical therapy beneficial to the patient, it is also a beneficial career path. you are able to work with patients one on one, be with them throughout treatment. Also you know how much of an impact you are making in their lives. Helping people to attain or regain the ability to walk and carry out daily life can lead to a great feeling of personal satisfaction. You are able to choose from a wide range of locations and work settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools, sports and fitness facilities, employer settings, and nursing
A physical therapist will help an injured or sick person feel better and get their normal body functions back to normal again. A physical therapist will help strengthen the injured part of the patient so that a recurring injury is not likely to happen. They will also help a patient recover after a surgery, stroke, heart attack, or rehabilitate somebody that has had a life threatening event happen. The work environment for a physical therapist is usually in a hospital, although, they can provide home health care services or work in their own building. It is uncommon for a physical therapist to have a office in a physician's office. As of 2015, more than 200 programs to become a physical therapist were offered to obtain a required Doctor
Everyone on the planet able to has to work so many hours a week and get a certain amount of things done in a day. A physical therapist has to work at least forty hours a week and will see ten to twelve patients
In five years, I see myself entering the physical therapist world. I plan to be applying for my first physical therapist job and gain experience. If I do not get that far, I will still be doing education to further my knowledge in the career field to help me with possibilities for the best job I can
From a young age I was interested in the medical field. As I became more exposed to the various options, I decided physical therapy was the right career for me. My experience has proved the field to be interesting and fun. I enjoy working with people and the versatility of therapy. There are many areas to specialize in and I look forward to learning which one is right for me. At the moment I am interested in pediatric acute care but I am also interested in sports and orthopedics. As I continue my studies, I look forward to learning about the different fields in which physical therapy will take me. My future views may change which physical therapy field I wish to pursue, but right now I look forward to learning as much as I can about physical therapy and helping others.
Ibrahim, Eid & Moawd (2014) conducted a randomized controlled study to determine if there were differences between the outcomes of children receiving a selected physical therapy treatment and whole body vibration(WBV) and children receiving a selected physical therapy alone (control group). The measurements tested were isometric strength of the knee extensors (weak and strong legs), spasticity, walking speed, walking balance, and gross motor function before and after a 12 - week intervention program. The inclusion criteria were children with spastic diplegia from both sexes ages ranging from 8 to 12 years old, who were ambulatory (with or without walking aids), able to follow instructions, with a 1 to 2 degree of spasticity,
If I could have any career I would choose pediatric occupational therapy, as it is a wonderful blend of my interests and passions. My desire has always been to work with babies and young children, and pediatric occupational therapy provides an opportunity to not only spend time with little ones, but to improve their lives in a sweet and meaningful way. Because of my nurturing heart, I cherish the idea of being able to help infants and children reach their full potential.
Two careers that interest me are speech language pathology and nursing. Although I pretty well have my heart set on speech language pathology, I know that it is important to have a parallel plan. Both of these careers would allow me to fulfill my dream of impacting the lives of others by working in the healthcare field. Both of these degrees will challenge me to be the best version of myself possible. Whether I went into SLP or nursing, I would make great money with a versatile degree and diverse clientele. The job market for both of these degrees is also promising. I could also benefit myself and my family by working for an employer who provides health insurance and 401k benefits.

In today’s world there are many Americans who are being neglected from health care that they need when they are recovering from an injury. At the same time there are many physical therapists that have to move across state lines for various reasons and are unable to support their families for weeks and even months at a time. “Why is this” one might ask. This is because in America right now each state has their own requirements that need to be met in order for a license to practice physical therapy to be issued. This means that in order for someone to practice in a different state they have to obtain another license which takes a long time. Although physical therapists face many challenges in today’s world, the biggest challenge is the inability
Since I now have researched all of the important facts about what it takes to become a physical therapist, the pro’s and con’s, information about current trends like the new health care laws, and learned about where the field is at today, I can now make a more informed decision about this career choice. At this time in my life I’m not prepared to take on the requirements that are needed to get into the DPT program. I am still interested in the field and since I can get a bachelors degree in any field to start the requirements for the program I may still consider this occupation as a career choice and pursue this more in the future. I do enjoy helping people and working hands and have always been interested in the health care field so this will be a great option that I’m now more informed about. 13
