Physical therapists collaborate with other healthcare providers to improve their patient’s quality of life following injury, surgery, or resulting from other movement limitations. Physical therapists are responsible for assessing the limitation, developing a plan to enhance patient health outcomes, improving movement, and optimizing physical function, in addition to preventing further injury. As a student-athlete in college, I learned about commitment and resilience, as well as personal accountability. I practice with determination and purpose so that I have done everything possible to prepare for competition. Similarly, I learned to commit to specific times for study, to study with a purpose, to learn all the material and be prepared for exams. If I don’t get the race results or score on a test that I hoped for, I don’t make excuses because I know I can’t change the past. Instead, I work even harder to prepare more and do better in the future. This approach to school, sport, and life has worked extremely well for me and given me the self-assurance to be successful in an intense educational program. …show more content…

I have worked with children having special education needs to expose them to art. My volunteer experience exposed me to the joy and satisfaction of working with special needs children, and taught me the importance of acceptance. I also spent a week in a rural Alaska Native village of less than 300 people. The people, language, food, and music were new to me, and opened my eyes to a culture and social class that was completely different from my own. As a future health care provider, I look forward to the opportunity to improve the health outcomes of underserved and culturally diverse clients, while learning more about how social and cultural factors influence health and
