A physical therapist will help an injured or sick person feel better and get their normal body functions back to normal again. A physical therapist will help strengthen the injured part of the patient so that a recurring injury is not likely to happen. They will also help a patient recover after a surgery, stroke, heart attack, or rehabilitate somebody that has had a life threatening event happen. The work environment for a physical therapist is usually in a hospital, although, they can provide home health care services or work in their own building. It is uncommon for a physical therapist to have a office in a physician's office. A typical DPT program will last for about 3 years. Programs usually require a bachelor’s degree for admission but some programs will accept college freshman and enter them into a 6 to 7 year course. When the student graduates, they will receive their DPT while also obtaining a bachelor's degree. Some colleges/universities that offer a DPT program are Emory University, Creighton University, University of Florida, and the University of Iowa.
When you become a physical therapist, you can expect to be paid a good amount. The median annual wage for a physical therapist is $85,400. The lowest 10th percentile is making just under $58,190, while the highest 10th percentile is making over $122,130. I would not mind being in the highest 10th percentile. As of 2014, the job outlook looks just as great as the pay does. It is estimated that the need for employment of a physical therapist will increase by 34% by 2024. They also work with helping a patient's body to get better. A chiropractor also requires a doctoral or professional degree. The median salary for them is about $67,520. Another similar job would be a audiologist. These people work with patient’s hearing, balance problems, and ear problems, unlike a physical therapist who work with getting people’s injuries, such as a knee, back to normal functions or greater. The last job is very, very similar to a physical therapist. It’s a physical therapist assistant. A physical therapist assistant will evaluate the patient, do workouts with them, and make sure they are getting better. The difference between the two is that a physical therapist will evaluate the patient first, then make a plan of exercises to make the person better. The physical therapist assistants job is to ensure that the patient is doing the workouts right and also getting better as time goes on.
