Understanding Physical Education Standards
Physical education has been taught around the world in many schools since the 1800s as it is explained in the article “The Evolution of Physical Education”. A city in Ohio, Cincinnati, became the first school to develop this program in the United States in 1855. As years pass, physical education started to decrease their standard requirement for students. It started to become easier and less competitive for students to pass the class. Physical Education standards in k-12 are inadequate in developing student’s total health because they lack vigor. Therefore, physical education standard must enhanced to ensure that all students can reach maximum fitness levels.

In this article, “Importance of Physical Education in High School”, explains that physical education needs to be in school because it helps kids develop out of their comfort zone, improves their digestive processes, helps to relieve students stress, and doctors consider young patients to at least be active and healthy everyday. This is one of the reasons as to why physical education should be a mandatory class not only for high school students, but also for elementary and middle school students. Also, many kids who are really afraid, could get out of their comfort zone because they would do activities that involves having a partner or developing a team. Therefore, many kids would meet new people, which will direct them to be more satisfied throughout. Overall, physically being active is important not only for health, but also for socialism. “Eliminating recess also can take away an opportunity for children to learn social skills”( “Should Elementary School Have Recess? This explains that students will have a difficult time getting to know each other if they can hardly be able to talk to each other because when you’re in class, you can’t talk to one another unless the teacher allows it. However, there are bounteous ways for students to interact with other students in and out of school. In addition, this could be a big advantages for shy students because it will help them get out of their comfort zone. “ They benefit from being part of the team and develop more confidence. In the longer season, they have more time to improve. At risk students develop better social skills as a side benefit of learning sportsmanship and fair play”( Sport Education). This quote shows that many student could overcome the fear of being shy in physical education class because they get to interact with different people

Proponents of physical education often contend their case with these and other similar arguments, but upon closer examination of the physical education system, its true use and effectiveness are highly questionable. Those who argue that physical education is integral to the nation’s health must reexamine the nation in which we live, a nation in which more than one-third of adults are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pennsylvanian legislation has mandated physical education since 1999, but since 1999, the adult obesity rate has risen by 11%. Regardless of the proponents’ claims, physical education is not having its intended effect on public health. (Note: I am not trying to suggest that physical education is deleterious to public health. I am just showing that physical education has done a negligible job promoting health). Furthermore, physical education consumes an entire class period of a student’s day, a class period which could be spent learning one of many highly important, pertinent 21st century subjects that the Common Core has inexplicably ignored: micro and macro economics, U.S.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.

Over the past decades our culture has changes dramatically. To which our nation was once a physically active nation. Yet now it seems that society discourages physical activity. The human race has been dependent on automobiles, discouraging people to walk or bike, increasing the chance of a poor life-style. Yet there are many factors that affect the achievement and maintenance of a healthy life. Young people are growing into a diverse society, which is characterized by rapid change, inactive work and leisure practices that influence unhealthy behaviors. By incorporating physical activity into peoples daily routine will increase their chances of being healthier, reducing certain diseases and learning how to avoid injuries. Physical education helps students improve their knowledge about health issues and practices that will lead to a more enjoyable life. Students playing and working in a team together develop social skills, teamwork, achieving goals, and development of self-esteem. Overall physical education provides the potential for a better life style.
A teaching philosophy is critical in my role as a future successful teacher. It will guide me in the way I conduct myself, how I develop curriculum, and how I establish order in my classroom. As a teacher it is important for me to be consistent with how I manage my classes. With a central philosophy as a backbone it will be easy to follow my own simple guidelines.

Physical education time is being cut in schools to give more time for students to focus on core courses such as Science, Math and Reading.
