Photography is one of the most creative ways to express yourself. Photography was not only invented but created over and over again as time has passed and it has greatly transformed over time. Not only the processes of the image, but the way that cameras have developed, but also the way the film has been printed. You would not believe the things people can do with photography now. “Photography mediates our experience of the modern world,” (Photography). The word from “Photography” comes from the Greek words, photos which are light, and graphene which is to draw. This word was first used by John F.W. Herschel. He used it as the process of recording images by the action of light. Shown on the left (Pinhole Cameras) the first camera created was created in 1000 AD by Alhazen. He created what was called the Pinhole camera, this was a simple camera without a lens and had one single hole in one side. It was a small light proof box, light passed through a single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box. Shortly after this was created the first photograph was developed. “In 1827 Nicephore Niepce took the first image, with a camera Obscura (shown in the image below) which made light draw the picture for you that were called holographs or sun prints. This was done by placing a metal plate coated in bitumen, and then exposed it to the light, then the shadowy areas of the engraving blocked light and the whiter area lets the light react with the chemicals on the plate. After this process, he would then place the metal plate in solvent until the image gradually appeared within eight hours. Eight hours made the image appear, but they weren 't sure how to make it stay because every time it would soon fade away” (Exampl... ... middle of paper ... ...r it was also beginning to be considered as a profession. This became more popular in 1991 when Kodak released the DCS 100. The first available digital single lens camera. Digital imaging uses an electronic image sensor to record the image as a set of electronic data rather than as chemical changes on film. An important difference between digital and chemical photography is that chemical photography resists photo manipulation because it involves film and photographic paper, while digital imaging is a highly manipulative medium. This difference allows for a degree of image post-processing that is comparatively difficult in film-based photography and permits different communicative potentials and applications. Digital photography dominates the 21st century. More than 99% of photographs taken around the world are through digital cameras, increasingly through smartphones.
