INTRODUCTION to LINGUISTICS
1.) What is Linguistics?
Linguistics is the study of language. It talks about the dialects that we have, what we use to express in our daily conversation in our everyday phenomena because it is noticeable part of social manners of the human aptitudes. Linguistics is also having its parts below. So when we say linguistics it’s more on the languages or the facts in all aspects. For me knowing linguistics is that you want to know how such linguistics, the grasp of messages, is how verbal communication is different. Each of us, as a human being we always wants a communication. We want to communicate each other in order for us to express our desires, opinion, emotions, and all other things that we want to express.
2.) Phonetics vs. Phonology Phonetics is studying the speech sounds of human languages in their physical feature. It doesn’t have prior facts. Just for example, as a person we individually talks and have conversations in our own opinions, own word, own thoughts, etc. coming from our own mouth and mind without instructions, that’s PHONETICS; whereas the PHONOLOGY, it is an exact study of sounds and it should be followed by a human.

Synchrony, it is without taking history; while Diachrony, it is taking a history. Just for example, “Micah buys a Cat and that Cat is coming from her ex-boyfriend that makes her cried when they are in a relationship at that time. But Micah loves the cat. What she was going to do? Is she returns the cat in to the Pet shop or she gets it and don’t even care if who’s the owner of It.” That’s an example of Synchrony because it happens already the things that was done and gone and which things exist or move at the same time; despite the fact that Diachrony as a result the study of language in terms of how it obviously changes in
In the Vietnamese language, there is a range of 19 to 21 consonant phonemes, which differs in result of how a word is pronounced. A consonant such as “/p/” only comes about when a word is borrowed from the French language. Other consonants experience more pronunciation such as “/tʰ/”, which occurs when there is an exhale of air that is followed by the words release. The Vietnamese language is also made up of 72 vowels. Technically, there are 12 vowels in the Vietnamese language. However, the language consists of six tones which therefore leads to a total of 72 distinct vowels. (Thompson 2013).
Language is defined as a "system of words formed from such combinations and patterns, used by the people of a particular country or by a group of people with a shared history or set of traditions (Microsoft Bookshelf. 1996-1997 edition)." Ebonics is a form of communication of feelings, thoughts, opinions and ideas at is being used by ou...
Phonological awareness (PA) involves a broad range of skills; This includes being able to identify and manipulate units of language, breaking (separating) words down into syllables and phonemes and being aware of rhymes and onset and rime units. An individual with knowledge of the phonological structure of words is considered phonologically aware. A relationship has been formed between Phonological awareness and literacy which has subsequently resulted in Phonological awareness tasks and interventions. This relationship in particular is seen to develop during early childhood and onwards (Lundberg, Olofsson & Wall 1980). The link between PA and reading is seen to be stronger during these years also (Engen & Holen 2002). As a result Phonological awareness assessments are currently viewed as both a weighted and trusted predictor of a child's reading and spelling and ability.
Phonemic Awareness and Alphabetic Principle in addition to Phonics and Decoding Skills provide students with early skills of understanding letters and words in order to build their reading and writing skills. Students will need to recognize how letters make a sound in order to form a word. While each word has a different meaning to be to format sentences. While reading strategies for Reading Assessment and Instruction, I was able to find three strategies for Phonemic Awareness and three strategies for Alphabetic Principles which will provide advantage for the student in my research and classroom settings.
Looking upon my time here at Central Michigan, I recall in previous courses that phonemic awareness is how we interpret the sounds in a word. Essentially, being able to hear and identify these sounds of our language. After deeply focusing on Phonological and phonemic awareness over the course of a few weeks, it is clear that my prior knowledge isn’t far off. Both of these skills involve sound and can be processed with eyes closed—no printed material. After much research, these skills are vital to a child and their development; they aid in spelling, alphabetic principle, and letter-sound correspondence. If this skill is not obtained by a child, he or she will have a difficult time with reading and comprehension in addition to poor spelling.
Speech errors serve as a window to investigate speech production and arrangement of language elements in the brain. Gary S. Dell and Peter A. Reich (1980) said that one of the best way to find out how a system is constructed is if that system breaks. Speech errors as a linguistic phenomenon has been the topic of many linguistic researches. It can be investigated as an evidence for linguistic change as well. Bussmann and Hadumod (1996) in the Routledge dictionary of language and linguistics defines speech errors as " (Latin: lapsus linguae), is a deviation (conscious or unconscious) from the apparently intended form of an utterance." (449).
Phonological awareness is students understanding of sound awareness of being able to hear the sound as and continues stream know as phones. Children at a young age should be learning and understand the basic concepts of English has a streamline and be able to break down the sound components. As teachers, it is important to understand the most efficient and engaging of teaching to their students, reading and writing.
Linguistics is the science of a language. Linguists depend on the use of certain aspects in order to analyse, describe and explain a human language; these aspects include semantics and pragmatics.
To begin, we shall define language. The way to define language can be quite intricate but is important to understand for the sake of human communication. Language possesses many different elements that are needed for one to understand it. Understanding how the language processing in cognitive psychology works, one should examine it and have a clear view on cognitive psychology (Boroditsky 2001). Basically, language is an intricate process of communication that flows with ones’ thoughts. Lexicon can be defined as somewhat of a mental dictionary. It can hold many depictions of known words which are spelling, part of speech for each word, and the way a word is pronounced (Boroditsky 2001). Lexicons help in matching the spoken word with that of the meaning of the word. Therefore, people will start to see words through this way of doing things because spoken words are similar with a lexicon (Boroditsky 2001).
Language is a method in which individuals communicate in order to get their opinion across to the listening party. Language is the tool which ideas can be conveyed in various ways. Typically, language is referred to verbal communication, however, it ranges to all methods of communication i.e. sign language.
Consonant is a speech sound which is produced by a partial or a complete obstruction of the airflow by the constriction of the speech organs ( Ladefoged and Disner, 2012:201). The production of consonants involves bringing two of the speech organs close enough together to shut off or restrict the flow of air (Bennett, 1998: 7). Consonant sounds may be voiced or voiceless which are produced with an obstruction or occlusion at some points in the vocal tract, this obstruction of airflow could be complete or partial (Al-Hamad, 2002: 75 and Erwin, 2004:5). Consonant sounds are not produced or formed only if there is an occlusion in the flow of air or when there is a close articulation of two organs of speech or when they are fully pressed together to form the consonant sound (Ahmed, 2004:16).
Language is a means of human communication whether verbally or nonverbally. In everyday life we use language to express our thoughts, feelings ,attitudes, etc.A great amount of social interactions takes place every day over the telephone ,by online chats, face –to face interaction or at workplaces .We use language of different forms for different functions as in to inform, question , and sometimes to strengthen social relationships or just to keep the social wheels turning smoothly. Moreover, understanding one's own language and even other cultures’ language is important to arrive at a successful and effective communication with others . The study of language can be undertaken in various ways .Semantics and pragmatics are two branches of linguistics which are concerned with the study of meaning.
To start with, I do not want to narrowly define language as merely verbal communication. Language is far broader than that. In a few seconds a person walking past you on the street could tell you more about themselves with a sincere smile than they could with a few rushed words. Language encompasses all aspects of communication that enhance the level of our interaction. The tone in our voice demonstrating our feelings on a topic or our body language indicating our level of interest are just as important in interaction as verbally communicating content. There for I define language as any act that is involved in the interaction between two or more people.
Language is nothing but a media which expresses feelings, ideas, experiences and even pains properly to others. Cultural background is the origin of language. Language is one of the channels which promote human relations and human affections. Language always unites the people and sometimes language itself diverse the people. Without the language we cannot imagine the existence of human beings on the earth. Language is a system of words that people used to express thoughts, feelings each other. The word ‘language’ derived from Latin “lingua” which means ‘tongue, speech’. The word sometimes used to refer to codes, ciphers and other kind of communication systems. For example computer programming.
