According to our textbook Student Teaching, “Self -knowledge should precede trying to impart knowledge to others.” All of my beliefs and values help to shape who I am and what my educational philosophy consists of. Since I value learning I believe teaching is an important job. I am constantly learning myself therefore I am modeling the importance of education to my students. I value imagination and exploration. Therefore I provide many hands on activities that allow the children to explore and to use their imagination In summary, one of my hopes and goals as an educator is foster a love of learning in all of my students.
School environments must be respectful, caring, stable, and stimulating atmospheres in order to enhance the learning environment. Students that perceive the atmosphere as friendly, satisfying, focused on goals, and challenging and who feel the classroom has the required materials tend to learn more (Walberg, 1984). Teachers need to commit to students and their learning and become members of the learning community. Teaching students to develop respect for others, their environment, and themselves helps to develop a caring, safe classroom community. In my classroom I would allow students to develop their own set of classroom rules and consequences with my guidance.
I not only want them to succeed in subjects but also grow as individuals. I plan to use the progressivism approach in my classroom because I believe that hands on education in a very effective way of learning. It helps students to get a first hand experience to see and feel what it is they are learning. I also think that working with groups in their classroom is very beneficial to students. By interacting with their peers they will learn how to share their ideas, accept others points of view and learn how to develop relationships , which is a very important part of life that will help them to succeed in their careers.
A child's natural curiosity can be a powerful tool used to direct his/her learning. My classroom will be student-centered. I will be a skilled facilitator that is knowledgeable, capable and effective in the management of a classroom. My lessons must address all my students learning needs. I understand why an effective teacher must be a resourceful curriculum planner.
I will model this attitude by learning from my students in the classroom, showing that they have things to teach me. To make the best use of my classroom time I as a teacher need to know what strategies to apply to promote good classroom management. The following are the methods I would apply to my classroom: . Using rewards and reinforcements . Understanding my student’s level of learning
They need to know the perspective goals for each student and ways to achieve these goals. Teachers need to work with students to help them grow and develop ways to use their knowledge. Education is the most important aspect in ones life. Through the development of education, children learn knowledge and how to become productive adults in an ever-changing world. Education should improve the quality of each students life.
Motivation is what drives us to do the things that we do. It is something that needs to be cultivated in the classroom from the beginning of the year. The teacher needs to understand how each individual child is motivated and what peaks their interest. I will praise the students and make them feel good about themselves. I want each student to know that I care about them and want to do all I can to help them learn and grow.
Philosophy Statement I believe that education is the key in developing today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders. Education is the basis on which individuals develop their self-concept and the desire to become more knowledgeable. I want to become an educator because I am interested in helping elementary students become active learners and also to assist with their social skills. I believe I can make a difference to many students as they start their educational foundation. I feel that all teachers should possess the desire to devote their hard work and efforts to their students’ educational success.
A teacher is not the only model that students will be exposed to in their life. This is why it is crucial to involve parents and other members of the community to share in your vision. Students learn a variety of social skills as they embark on their education at any school district. They learn to listen, take turns, hear different points of view, negotiate, communicate, and take responsibility for their own behavior. I believe that when students have those skills and attitudes; learning will be meaningful in their lives.
I believe a classroom should be a sanctuary of learning in which the students know from the beginning what is expected of them and the teacher should discuss what is expected of her as a teacher. There needs to be an understanding amongst all involved with the children education. This understanding can lead to a fun filled adventurous classroom that encourages students to strive for the best. I believe when students and teachers are able to learn from each other, the learning environment can be successful. A successful classroom involves having an effective educator who believes they can make a difference in their students’ lives by believing in themselves as productive teachers.
