Pharmacy
Pharmacists serve patients by providing information and advice on
well-being. They also supply medication to patients in need of a
better health. A qualified pharmacist must go through a certain amount
and type of schooling to obtain certain degrees; these degrees will
make an individual eligible to become a qualified pharmacist. Many
colleges and universities across the United States offer great
schooling to be part of this profession. There are many reasons for
people to join such an appealing profession to with benefits such as a
great living.
Pharmacists are experts in drugs developed to treat and prevent human
diseases. They advise doctors and patients on which prescriptions and
over-the-counter drugs, medicines and therapies are appropriate for
treating certain health conditions. They also prepare medications,
fill prescriptions, and teach patients how to take the medication.
Therefore, they must have excellent communication skills so that they
can listen, understand, and ask questions. In addition, they must be
able to express ideas clearly when speaking and writing so that
patients understand correctly. A pharmacist must make sure that they
explain the composition of the drug, the side effects, the dosages,
and the any complications with other drugs the patient might use. A
person in this profession must be organized and always focused to make
sure they do not give the wrong medication to the incorrect person
because the consequences can be fatal. In summary for a person to be a
successful pharmacist they must be a focused, well trained, and
organized person.

found a job as a pharmacist and works 8 hours a day 5 days a week and
earns about 100,000 dollars a year. She owns a gorgeous apartment and
drives a BMW. Through hard work and studying I am confident that I
could become a successful pharmacist that helps guide people to a
healthier and longer life.

Working in the pharmaceutical industry, there are different types of environments you could possibly work in. There are chain pharmacies, like any kind of grocery store or CVS. There are franchise pharmacies, which are also known as apothecaries. Also, there are community pharmacies, which are also known as retail pharmacies. Some of them are independent pharmacies, which is usually owned by a pharmacist or a group of pharmacists.. There are hospital pharmacies, in which are in the hospital. There are many more different types, these are only a few.
Wal-Mart first opened in Rogers, Arkansas on July 2, 1962. Wal-Mart was built on the principle of “The Lowest Prices Anytime, Anywhere”. What started out as a simple discount store became the largest retailer in the world with 11,000 stores worldwide with a net sales of $482.2 billion. Wal-Mart works to bring value to its customers and to create opportunities for everyone. My preceptor was Dr. Lorrie Williams and she was one of three pharmacists in charge of the Wal-Mart pharmacy that I interned at for my Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience. As a student in SDSU’s pharmacy program one of the activities required to prepare us for real world pharmacy practice would be to shadow a staff pharmacist at the Jackrabbits pharmacy on the SDSU campus. I have had previous work experience in a community pharmacy and there are some unique features which makes Jackrabbits pharmacy stick out.

Pharmacy Technicians Despite popular belief, pharmacy technicians are more than laborers; they are special. trained individuals to be successful. Imagine a family member is admitted to the University of South Alabama Hospital with an acute case of pneumonia, which will require oral and intravenous medications. These medications must be precisely prepared and properly delivered. The common perception is that pharmacists prepare medications and technicians simply deliver them.
In most cases, when you ask a kid about what he wants to be when he grows up, he would probably answer a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. It is very rare that you would hear a little kid saying that he wants to be a pharmacist. I have to be honest pharmacy wasn’t really something that I dreamed about as a child; it was only in recently that I have developed an appreciation to my chosen field. ... started studying again so that I could prepare for DAT. While I was studying and preparing for it, my financial situation was getting worse and worse because my business became bankrupt. At the same time, my financial situation could not be salvaged easily given that my wife could not work because of her disk surgery. Working full time and studying for the test made me exhausted. I could barely finish prerequisite courses. Besides my business suffering bankruptcy, I was also faced with personal debts that were accumulating by day. Most people though that I could not get out of the predicament but I eventually set up a plan that saw me pay off my personal debts and complete my studies. Now I want to pursue a promising career; one that will offer me a wide range of job opportunities and help me to serve mankind better. I consider Pharmacy my best career choice.
Pharmacy is a very misunderstood career in the medical field. Many people believe that pharmacists only count and sort pills, but there is actually much more than what meets the eye. Pharmacists have a variety of responsibilities that they perform throughout their careers. They often fill prescriptions for patients, which does involve counting and sorting pills. However, they take it a step further, and work with patients to ensure all their current medications won 't have many negative effects when taken together. The importance of the becoming a pharmacist should not be about what the career can give a person in monetary value or the amount of accolades one receives. Instead, the career should be about saving and improving human lives and serving the public. Pharmacists keep people healthy, make them feel better, and try to help the public live longer and happier lives as long as possible. From small infant children to the elderly, everyone needs pharmaceutical care. Sometimes it can be a matter of life and death if medication is not available to the public. Pharmacy as a career would be a wise decision if a person could withstand the amount of education the profession entails.
Pursuing pharmacy as a profession derives deeply from my self-interest in studying pharmacology and medicinal chemistry. While attending a seminar held at the University of Minnesota by Dr. James R. Fuch, I witness the importance of drug kinetics, bioavailability, toxicity and how drugs are administered. It is then that ignited my curiosity into wanting to learn more about applying chemistry into health care and research. After completing a Drug and Alcohol Pharmacology course and attending various medicinal pharmaceutical chemistry seminars, I was self convinced that becoming a clinical research pharmacist is the right career path. That summer after school I just wanted to find a job and start making some money. Going to college for anther four year was something I thought I could not handle. I final got a job at UPS unloading trucks. At first I thought how hard could it be? But every day I would come home exhausted from working in the heat. And then when I got tiny pay check, it hit me. From then on I decided that manual labor was something that I could not do the rest of my life and I could definitely not support a family on that income. A job behind a desk in the air conditioning was what I wanted.
Pharmacists have very important roles in healthcare from all angles. Physicians and licensed practitioners that write a written prescription, the pharmacist reviews patient history, health conditions, and interactions with the new medication prescribed. As a pharmacy technician (for six years) I had a somewhat of an overview on what they accomplished in a shift but did not know everything on what I know now from this research. Pharmacy students that are in the process to obtain their doctor of pharmacy (D.Pharm.) go through a series of training, education and internship to become a well-rounded pharmacist.
Being a pharmacist means entering into a diverse yet extremely rewarding field of work. Pharmacists are heavily involved in the preparation and dispensing of medicinal drugs. As of right now, the demand for pharmacists is going up at a steady rate due to the rapid expansion of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries (Job Outlook for Pharmacists). Pharmacists are generally stationed in one location for the duration of their work. Unless of course a pharmacist is leaving to study more on efficient ways to work, info on new drugs, etc.. Pharmacists work year round doing virtually the same thing they started doing. Give or take a few new or old drugs being introduced there is not significant amounts of change that happens in this occupation regarding time such as peak times. Although, it could be argued that during some seasons there is more of a demand for prescription drugs to be given out because it might be a “sick season”. Therefore, this would cause a “peak” period. Most pharmacists generally work 40 hours a week. As with all professions though there are pharmacists, around 12%, that work more than 50 hours per week (Pharmacists - What They Do). Being a pharmacist requires a fairly decent amount of well tuned motor skills. This is simply because a pharmacist with shaky hands can overprescribe someone due to maybe giving more than the intended amount.
