Pharmacist Personal Statement

My very first exposure of pharmacy was back when I was a child when my father use to take me to the local pharmacy to get my immunization shots. This childhood experience brings a deep-rooted desire in me to be involved in pharmaceutical profession. I was born in Ethiopia, with limited resources. The community I grew up in believes in very high family values geared towards sharing and taking care of each other. Being the oldest of my siblings, I have learned to try new things on my own with minimal help, and pass my experience to my younger brother and sisters. This and the social nurture helped me to develop a caring character and feel happy whenever I help my younger siblings, family and society as I grow. In high school, I leaned pharmacy is patient-oriented profession that determines their needs and assures that they have meet their needs. Ethiopia had only one pharmacy school accepting thirty students at the time I completed high school. Even though I did not succeed joining the pharmacy school, I believed in myself not to give up on my dream to become a pharmacist. When I had the chance to move to the United States, I was excited to be one step close to achieve my life long dream of becoming a pharmacist. …show more content…

I have also gained a good work experience in the health care profession as a volunteer at spectrum health and pharmacy job shadowing at the Chemist Shoppe at spectrum health-blodgett hospital. I have learned that pharmacist besides filling and compounding prescriptions, also provide patients with the information about their medication that creates a sense of reassurance being cared for and treated as an individual. I have enjoyed every single day I spent job shadowing in the pharmacy, it is my dream to be in such a profession who treats and give great care for
