Throughout the book, Peter demonstrates that he can persevere through these situations. For example, he is a fourteen-year-old who is capable to go into the Peel Tower located in Cumberland just to find Tom Boyd “We must find out ㇐ if we can possibly get inside” (Trease .179). Peter does not know how risky it possibly is if he searches for Tom. Peter is willing to risk his life for Tom. Since he has no idea what to expect in the Peel Tower, he is unsure if Tom is still there or not. This is an example of perseverance because he is not afraid and continues to try to look for him, even though this is very risky, he still is relentless to strive for the best he can do. Additionally, this is not the only time Peter has risked his life, in fact, there were tons of times throughout the novel when he jeopardizes his own life. Such as the time when he snuck into the “Yellow” Gentlemen’s house and got his stolen playback, returned to him. When Peter was climbing the side of the house during a substantial situation, it shows his heroic qualities. Peter’s state of mind can sometimes be unimaginable as he said: “Each time I put my weight on a fresh dagger, my heart went into my mouth and I nerved myself for the splash below”(Trease .132). The narrator’s father is being freed from slavery after the civil war, leads a quiet life. On his deathbed, the narrator’s grandfather is bitter and feels as a traitor to the blacks’ common goal. He advises the narrator’s father to undermine the white people and “agree’em to death and destruction (Ellison 21)” The old man deemed meekness to be treachery. The narrator’s father brings into the book element of emotional and moral ambiguity. Despite the old man’s warnings, the narrator believes that genuine obedience can win him respect and praise.
Some people are born with it, others are not so lucky. It’s the feeling of raw bravery and a want to be the best. A way of always seeing the light even before the dawn. People often mistake it for just “never giving up”, but this is much more, almost a superpower. Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
Many people encounter perseverance throughout their life in certain events. Buck from the Call of the Wild, is taken from a place like home to him and thrown into a harsh environment he is not used to. Similar to that, my mom was living a normal life when suddenly she had to stay strong for the family due to her brother near death from a tragic wreck. Even though they differ, both had to adapt to the life changing experiences and stay mentally strong.

The novel Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals has many themes that are shown. One of the major themes that stuck out to me was inner strength and perseverance. Inner strength means to have Integrity of character: resoluteness of will: mental resistance to doubt or discouragement. From experience living in tight quarters is hard. Peter makes it through most of his hard times with hope, love and strength.
...after defeating the villain, the return journey at that moment could have been just as hard for peter emotionally as his journey to defeating the lizard. Peters return journey meant he had to make a choice between his loved ones and Spiderman. Choosing the more difficult of the two, peter made a sacrifice that could’ve been harder for than his journey towards developing himself into Spiderman and defeating the villain.
