The typical school age children have parents between the ages of 25-54, which makes up 70% of the major market segment (IBIS, 2014). Pets 101located in Port Orange Florida, has its competitors in a 25 mile radius of Volusia County.Pets101 has four brick and mortar direct competitors (serves the same target market with similar products and services) in a 25 mile radius. These competitors are Petco, Petsmart, Pet supermarket, Pet supplies plus, and Mr. Petman supermarket. All of these competitors are supermarket style pet shops that offer their customers quantity in a one stop pet shop atmosphere. Their target market is the same as ours but lack the personal touch and extensive education that will be offered at Pets101.Here we will give a comparative analysis of each store.

They offer a very broad range of over 12,000 products including the major brands for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles and all sorts’ pets, all at everyday low prices which are very competitive, presumably because their large volume allows major buying power.

For the mass population of pet owners, pets are considered a treasure, so the conversation of how much is to be spend on them is a hot debut. I do agree with Burkhart Bilger's Argument that, “Our love affair with pets our pets has gotten out of control.” but I contend with the ideal that it is a widespread problem. I still insist that owners should show attention and love to their pet but so without the overspending in regards to your income. This topic is brought up in Bilgers’ article “The Last Meow” where he uses different facts, examples, and stories that back up my position.

An observation I have made is that in many movies dogs are treated very well. When I was younger, I watched a movie called Bratz and one character would always have her dog inside a dog purse and they would even get manicures and pedicures together. The dog always had shiny clothes on and it was always very clean. Therefore, I agree with Bilger's argument that Americans “love affair” with their pets has gotten out of control.
