Timothy, Thank you for sharing this wonderful initiative. Personally, I feel as though your graduation rate increases would be one of the best indicators of student success. In addition, the reduction of student discipline referrals is also a task that I can assume was no easy undertaking. Great job! In my current profession we currently work with high school partners to allow their students to take college level coursework while students are still in high school. One of the issues that we found of concern when doing this is that we started to notice that student matriculation rates to the college or to any other university for that matter were declining as the program continued to grow. One would think that at the program grew so would …show more content…
With enrollment of 14,000 students still being a manual process the aforementioned had such a large impact with even a 1 percent margin of error (140 record changes). Our margin of error of which was about 5 percent (700 record changes) which had interdepartmental implications of record change request coming in from different departments and often getting lost in transition; for instance, when an employee leaves the department, promoted, etc. So we simply created a centralized workflow via SharePoint to track the request for each student. Once the request is made it will get worked on and processed no matter who submits the request and it also reduced the turnaround time for record changes from a about two or three business days to a few minutes. Staff members claim that they enjoy the reduction of emails sent back and forth through this centralization of database. Administrators love the fact that it only took a few months to create with resources that we already had available, so the cost was just a few R&D hours by one of the members on our IT staff. Our Director loved the fact that it streamlined the entire request process and now we only have a need for one records specialist as opposed to two; so he reclassified the position to that of a specialist of enrollment which was
Many students take their high school years for granted and do not always pull off the best grades. But then when they get to college, or a higher degree of education than high school they start to straighten up. The reason being is because after high school everyone can choose what it is they want to spend the rest of their life doing. The classes they take, are of interest to them rather than all of the required ones in high school. For this reason I feel that students are more likely to take college seriously and not just because of the money.

I am writing to you today to express my concerns over the current NSA spying programs. It is my right at a citizen to share my beliefs about how our government is handling its surveillance. I am a 48-year-old doctor from Oklahoma and I know I am not the only one who has concerns about the government spying on us. Firstly, what the government and NSA is doing is simply illegal. There’s no denying this. They have violated our unalienable right to privacy. The 4th Amendment of our Constitution clearly states that our privacy must not be infringed upon without a warrant. The NSA however is willing and able to monitor anyone they choose without a warrant and without notifying the person they are spying on (ACLU). For me, this poses a real threat
I'm going to start tonight by talking a little bit about public accountability. Over the past month, Lucille Kring and Kris Murray have lambasted my parents and me for criticizing them in front of the crowd in this room and those listening at home.
Ever since the fall, mankind has had a voracious desire for power and influence. People witness this desire within the walls of the Capitol Building when the media exposes backroom deals. It also springs up whenever a politician uses a podium to persuade people that he makes the world work. Politicians possibly rely on persuasion because they crave the power. However, persuasion is a manipulative, unBiblical tactic of forcing others to accept a point of view by all means necessary.

There are many people each day asking themselves the same question “ What should we do to improve colleges?” and they can't really find an answer to their question, but if you look harder and put more thoughts to it you can always find something to improve about your college no matter if you think there might be nothing wrong with it and it's working the way it should. There always will be a flaw you just need to look harder into it. In the reading by Danielle Douglas-Gabriel “Why so many students are spending six years getting a college degree” ,Douglas-Gabriel explains how sometimes it takes student longer to graduate because of colleges add to many unnecessary degree requirements to keep students in school for much longer than needed. My three year plan is called the Strive for Excellence plan. For the first two year I will be focusing on the decline of test scores for the last three years. By making all staff views all 2,800 students that were below average for all three years. Requiring mandatory training for all teachers and staff should be complete upon reviewing data. So they are able to identify their student’s specific strengths and weakness. The teacher will know where they need to concentrate their attention. (Sue W. Astley, 2016) School improvement is an evolving process that takes constant progress monitoring and constant input. A special computer-based program is needed in Rocky Road School District to pull up records of any student or classroom more efficiently. This will also assist with the monitoring progress over the two years. A committee of parents and staff will be created to better understand the data, come up with methods to increase scores and to maintain the...
Competitive reality shows are so popular because they challenge the contestants. After accepting the challenge the contestants must navigate their way through a myriad of obstacles with one goal in mind...winning. In order to win they have to break out of their comfort zone. We watch in excitement, we want them to win because they are working so hard.
A variety of schools have the belief that the effectively prepare their students for college and because of that belief that they hold, they do not realize that their method is possibly not being as effective as planned. Proven by the Census Bureau, “Public high schools main emphasis is often preparing students for college, but according to the Census Bureau, only about 30 percent of the U.S. population graduates from college” (Quoted in SUU News 1). If only 30 percent of the U.S. population graduates from college, then by this time high schools should realize that their college and career readiness methods are not successful. 30 percent is extremely low, especially considering the number of high school graduates who attend college. If it is
Over the last 30 years, the number of students starting their journey towards the Bachelor degree in the community colleges has been increasing and by 2014 reached almost 50% of the undergraduate enrollment. (NACAC, 2014) This along with increased percentage of students seeking a college degree and a steadily growing transfer rate from the community to the 4-year colleges suggests that "community colleges are increasingly seen as a more viable pathway to the bachelor's degree" and "motivate[s] most of the empirical research [of]. transfer students." (Melguizo, Kienzl, and Alfonso, 2011)
Criminal Law- Script – The Abortion Law reform Good morning/ afternoon, Ladies and gentlemen of the Queensland Department of the Justice and Attorney-General, we must make clear changes to s224,225 and 226 of The Criminal Code so as though abortion can be legalised in all circumstances. The current problem with the existing legislation is it is unclear and different judges can interpret it in different ways, therefore resulting in no guarantee that a similar case will have the same result. (Children by Choice, 2016). The current legislation needs to be revisited so as though as there are fairer outcomes for the woman.
While some teachers believe this, the facts to support their argument undocumented. While the drop out rate of first and second year college students is on the rise, of 2,654 colleges and universities surveyed nationwide, statistics state that one out of every four students will drop out of school by their second year. The dropout rate at two- and four-year public and private schools rose from 26.2 percent last year to 26.9 percent this year, according to a report released last week by American College Testing. Those dropouts, who were interviewed, eighteen percent stated students wanted professors, rather than teaching assistants, to teach the courses. Yet the dissatisfaction with instruction was strongly correlated with social isolation, and an unfriendly staff. Thirty-seven percent also stated finical reasons were a factor as can be seen on table one on page two.
The issue of student persistence and retention has garnered significant attention among institutions of higher education as they look at ways to increase student graduation rates and revenue. Freshman retention rates in the Midwest range from 89% to 55% (US News and World Reports, 2012). UIC’s first year retention rate hovers around 80%, but only about 50% of any cohort actually makes it to graduation (UIC Office of Degree Programs, 2009).
a really powerful process to repair harm, so students can go back into the classroom community and
