Smoking has been a public health issue that has been receiving more attention in recent years with the smoking ban in restaurants and on hospital and school campuses. The reason for the ban on smoking in so many public places is not only to discourage smoking in general, but also to reduce the incidence of second hand smoke exposure. Tobacco use is the foremost cause of preventable death, disease, and disability in the United States (CDC). Infants and children are especially vulnerable to serious health issues from second hand smoke exposure. Infants who are regularly exposed to second hand smoke have a higher incidence of sudden infant death syndrome. Children who are regularly exposed to second hand smoke have more frequent ear infections and often develop asthma or upper respiratory infections (CDC). Adolescents who smoke have an associated risk for alcohol or substance use and high-risk sexual behavior. Exposure to second hand smoke increases risk …show more content…

Every year in the United States, more than 480,000 people die from tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke; consequently, making this the leading cause of preventable death in this country. People are usually introduced to smoking at a young age; mostly around the preteen years. During this critical time preteen are transitioning from middle school to high school; teens at this age find it a little harder fitting in with others all while forming their own sense of identity. Preteens only pick up the habit of smoking to cope with these challenges. What these teens do not know is that smoking at an early age only increases their chances of suffering from a lifelong addiction. To help assuage the situation the Nicotinell anti-smoking organization

With smoking having obvious proven consequences, what does everyone think about smoking and health care???
Smoking has become a big epidemic in the United States. As a tobacco free person, I want to be able to breathe clean air anywhere I go. As we know, smoking can harm every organ in the body (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). I believe that smoking should be banned in public places such as drinking establishments, hospitals, buses, train stations, and restaurants. Not only does smoking affect the individual smoker, it also causes a number of health problems, increases death rate, and it affects not only the lives, but the health of other people around them. On the contrary, smoking should be banned in public areas for these reasons.
In the world that surrounds the human race every day, debates about cigarettes are ongoing. Many think that cigarettes should be banned and made illegal just as heroin was. On the contrary, giving up old habits such as smoking can be hard to accomplish and is fought otherwise. The truth is that with every drug there’s a cost that must be paid, although cigarettes are more settled, the life threatening effects cause cancer, heart disease and death.
Eighty percent of smokers began smoking before they turned eighteen (Statistic Brain-Underage Smoking Statistic). Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer in America. Adolescents are smoking cigarettes and other tobacco products more each day. Young people aren’t aware of the effects that smoking has on their body, some know the effects and still smoke to look “cool” or “popular”. The truth is that they are just slowly killing themselves. “Smoking kills. If you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life” (Shields).
Cigarettes to non smokers are commonly thought of, as rubbish. They give off an offensive smell, they stain teeth, fingers, smoke lingers in clothes, hair, cars and homes. Unless a person is already hooked to nicotine, there is almost no reason for them to choose to pick up smoking. The only reason anyone would take up smoking in this millenium, against the constant bombardment of anti-smoking advertisements, is a false sense of self propulsion to a higher popularity. Anti smoking ads have gotten more and more creative, and grotesque in the past several years. A campaign being lead by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) attempts to show the ugly side of smoking through any means necesarry. be that commercial that feature young adults pulling
Every year in Australia, according to Australia’s national Smoking Quit-line 15,000 people die from smoking. This number included, mothers, brothers, sisters, fathers, husbands and wives, which leaves a lot of irreplaceable vacancies in families across Australia. These losses could have all been avoided if smoking was banned in Australia. Which us to my point; I believe that smoking should be made illegal across the whole of Australia. Not only does smoking have a detrimental impact on our already fragile environment but the overall cost of cigarettes also has a negative impact on households. Smoking also tears apart our priceless families, as the impact of this nasty habit can be fatal.
A young boy suffocates as his father smokes his second pack. While this happens everyday, the father never stops to think that these actions affect his child, which can potentially kill both he and his son. In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind closed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their good image to the children that look up to them.
People throughout the time have been worried about some acts that people make; these acts are sometimes performed unconsciously or without realizing these are affecting they negatively affect others. Some reasons why this happens, they do not realize they are making someone uncomfortable, or they simply do not care about it. Smoking is one of these activities. For a long time, smoking in public places has been extremely popular regardless of age or gender. Many smokers believe they are free to smoke wherever and whenever they. Even if they realize the damage they are causing to themselves, which is a personal decision, when they smoke in public places they ignore the collective damage they are causing others. It has been claimed that despite not engaging in the activity themselves, “passive smokers suffer the same horrifying bad consequences as active smokers” in the form of second-hand smoke (Ecobichon & Wu, 1990, p. 43). Smoking is thus a dangerous activity that is becoming more and more popular in campus every day and is becoming a social and educational problem. Schools should ban smoking from their campus, and those that have should implement stricter methods of enforcing such rules.

Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
