What does it mean to have the right to die? What is assisted suicide? Who has the option of assisted suicide? The right to die is a movement within the United States involving doctor assisted euthanization. The assisted suicide option given only to patients who have a terminal illness and only have a set amount of time to live. There are two sides to this issue: there are the people in favor of giving the people the right to choose death, like myself, and there are people in opposition who believe that there is a bigger more moral issue with giving people this right. Live in the states of Montana, Oregon, Vermont and Washington; be mentally stable, and have the confirmation that you have six months or less to live by two physicians. Then there have to be two oral request and one written request with a set amount of time in-between request, known as the safeguards. The safeguards are in place to ensure the patient is absolutely sure, and qualified for euthanization. So overall, there has never been any issues with the right to die laws in Oregon, other than the people that oppose the movement, and over all the right to die program has been a success. I completely agree with how the program is set up, and I can see how sometimes it can be frustrating for some patients, but the qualification’s and the steps to be a part of the death with dignity program are there to make sure that is what people want to do. For the opposing side of the death with dignity laws I can agree with some of the issues that they brought up; however, some of the opposing issues are bias and moronic toward the right to die
