Can a person truly decide between allowing a fellow human to live or, taking every joy they ever had? Unfortunately, throughout history certain humans have taken it upon themselves to take the life of another or, break someone’s character to the point of no repair through sexual and violent abuse. To address these acts, the death penalty is a justifiable action that has been used throughout time to punish those who have carried out unspeakable actions. The death penalty has been an action of society since time began. King Hammurabi said it best when he told us, “An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.” (Martin). These individuals experience the hardship and trauma that encompasses crimes ending in gruesome death as they mourn for those lost. A family can only wish the same sentence of death upon the killer. Denying the family the comfort of knowing that the criminal will no longer commit any act of violence against another human being is something that should be a guaranteed choice for the ones left to pick up the broken pieces of the crime. Both the criminal and victims’ families and loved ones should be allowed to voice their opinions in whether someone should receive the death penalty. The death penalty has made an appearance in the less fortunate actions of humans for a long time and is not used for any basic crime committed. The death penalty is justifiable in certain crimes and cases. It is only reasonable that any human should be willing to do exactly what they have previously carried out including giving their own life in return for taking another’s.
