It has been said that tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death in the Unites States. Something must be done to help prevent the hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by smoking where that is quitting or enforcing regulations. After visiting several health websites including Girls Health, the American Heart Association, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is clear that tobacco smoking is a problem and has many effects on a person. Not only does smoking affect a person’s lungs, it also affects the brain, mouth, heart, skin, and muscles. Girls Health, highlights these areas in a website designed primarily for teenage girls and younger, and it explains more details on what can happen to the body if a person makes the choice to smoke. For example, when it talks about the effects on the lungs it says “smokers have trouble breathing because smoking damages the lungs. If you have asthma, you can have more frequent and more serious attacks. Smoking causes a lot of coughing with phlegm (mucous). Tobacco can cause emphysema (lung disease) and lung cancer” (Girls Health). This shows that while smoking can cause lung cancer, it can also have more affects than just that.
An article on the American Heart Association lists reasons why people should quit smoking as well as some of the harmful chemicals that are in cigarettes. Some of the reasons listed in the article include:

If you go to any state, it has different graphs for tobacco use of adults, tobacco use of youth, smokefree rules/policies, legislation, cessation coverage, funding, and a phone number to the quitline.
