Persuasive Essay On Raising Minimum Wage

Barack Obama once said, “No one who works full-time in America should have to live in poverty.” Imagine working a full workweek of 40 hours or more and coming home to a refrigerator with nothing in it. Listening to your children ask what is for supper and knowing that there is nothing in the house for them to eat because you’re not able to support them. After seeing my aunt and uncle go through not being able to support themselves without the assistance of my parents and grandparents, makes raising the minimum wage even more important to me. I took authority and started doing hours of research and found how important it is for everyone that it gets raised. This could be pertaining to anyone coming out of college with a degree and having all of these loans to pay off, but not being able to because of not making enough at minimum wage. Just because you have a college diploma doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to make more than minimum wage. We just hope that we will be one day. Families

People who work for a living put their money they make right back into the economy. When the minimum wage was created in 1938, a gallon of milk costed 10 cents. Now it cost on average around $3.82. Education is essential if one wishes to work, and the value of education has increased dramatically in the past years. The Nation’s Health states, “If you look at the conditions that impact health, income is right at the top of the list.” Not raising the minimum wage is a major health issue. Primary expenses such as gas and housing prices have elevated significantly. The minimum wage isn’t keeping up with inflation, making it even more impossible for people to afford things, which is hurting the economy because people aren’t buying expensive things as much as they used to. Companies should be wanting to pay their workers what they are actually worth and that is definitely more than minimum
