Persuasive Essay On Prostitution

Prostitution, the act of having sex with people in exchange for money, is one of the oldest professions in the world. Prostitution is illegal in the U.S. (except Nevada) and is a topic of much debate. The debate is about if it is moral to be a consenting prostitute or not. The majority believes that being a prostitute is wrong and they have a negative view on it and the women involved. Regardless of opinions, it is still a thriving industry in our society. I am not part of the majority, I believe being a consenting prostitute is in fact moral and is just like partaking in any other service providing profession.
Here’s my argument, I believe that these woman are not immoral for choosing to be prostitutes because they have every right to do what they please with their own bodies. The right to one’s own body means that,” you have the sole ownership and control over your own body and all processes therein.” More specifically, it means that everyone has full control over his or her own body and this control precedes all kinds of authority. When a woman chooses to have sex for money she is doing just this, she is controlling her body and choosing to use it for prostitution. These prostitutes are doing no inherent harm to anyone and if it is consensual I see no immorality.

...ases these women are indeed victims and that is immoral because there is great harm being done. These women are defenseless and violently forced to perform degrading sexual acts. They often have no way out and are stuck without consenting to this way of treatment.
I agree that forced prostitution is degrading, violent and immoral, but I am not arguing for those extreme cases. I am simply arguing the point that if one chooses and consents to selling their body that is their moral choice. The cases where women are not being forced and they simply choose to be a prostitute are very different. When you consent to do something with your body, it is nobody’s business. If you consent to do something with your body for money that shouldn’t be anyone’s business as well. There’s no immorality with choosing what to do with your body. Your own body, your rights. Period.
