Persuasive Essay On Privacy

As United States citizens, it has become imperative for us to consider the issues of privacy with a great deal of examination. Why? Well, with such a controversial topic as privacy, it had become difficult to determine where exactly the invisible line that one should not cross; starts. Not to mention, when and what does the government have to do in order to cross that line that minimizes our rights. In other words, do we truly recognize what our rights debar? With half a story or statement, it’s always easier to point the finger. That is to say, we’ve been provided with information from different sources that clearly singled out our government for devaluing our rights. In which, it is alleged that the government decreases how much privacy we have. Still, no one takes notice that we inadvertently give away our privacy by simply taking part. I’ll go in depth later in the essay but until then how can we determine what privacy is in the 21st century? According to the IPC (information and privacy commission), privacy can mean a variety of things. It can mean “the right to be left alone to the right to have some control over how personal or health information is properly collected, stored, used, or released.” Also, they believe there are three forms of privacy: physical, informational, and freedom from “excessive surveillance.” Their use of the word control was intriguing because in my opinion, in order to retain control of privacy we must keep to ourselves. When we share a piece of information of ourselves (whether it’s a secret to a friend, medical records to the doctor, etc.), we have no control over where the information is traveling. However, in a society such as ours it will become difficult to walk through life as if we’re non-... ... middle of paper ... ...and decide not to follow our parent’s rules there is three things they say and do. (1) I pay the bills, I supply you with what you have and until you make your own and you’re on your own you say as I do and move as I say. (2) They take away everything they brought and sometimes that includes the home you thought was yours. Last but not least, (3) when they feel like something’s not right, they barge in your room snooping for answers. The older we get the more distant (physically) we become from our parents, so as a result we feel as if we are entitled to the right of privacy. But no, we fail to realize that even though our biological parents can no longer tell us what to do and how to do it; we still have another parent to answer to. That parent becomes the government. Therefore, we still have rules to follow along with the many more brothers and sisters to protect.
