It 's September of 2016, and we still have to convince half of the United States that institutionalized racism is an issue in our society. Police killed Black people at 2.5 times the rate of White people in 2015. This information isn 't a new revelation, and it isn 't disputed anymore by those who are still skeptical of police brutality based on racial prejudice. Instead, they 've moved onto the argument that Black people commit violent crime at higher rates, therefore it isn 't abnormal for police to be more violent and aggressive much more often during encounters with Black civilians. This argument fails to recognize the existence and influence the 'War on Drugs ' has on police culture, policy, and procedure, while also negating to recognize the history of the United States ' government officials sacrificing the
To the surprise and disgust of many, who can 't bring themselves to deny blatant injustice, some members of these communities have decided to join the skeptics via overzealous nationalism or plain old apathy. When observing the motivations for some of these people, it seems as though they are led to believe that the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. For others, they were either lucky enough to avoid racism throughout their lives, or they deftly decided that life would be easier to simply accept the subjection of racism as a regular part of their lives. Regardless of their reasoning, they are championed by the White Nationalist movement that has risen to the top of American politics ONCE AGAIN. These citizens are used as mascots for bigotry and are usually encouraged and praised by admitted White Supremacists.
