Any breed of dog can be taught to behave, but some breeds are used for the wrong thing which labels these helpless animals as “vicious” or “mean” or even “unteachable”. In America the most looked at dog is the pitbull, not because it is beautiful or thought of as friendly. People look at the pit bull because the media portrays them as vicious animals that are good for nothing. These animals are born into a world that does not like them. Though a lot of time is put into ensuring people that these dog are just normal dogs, when the media portrays something as bad the masses will believe it. As John Baker Brown jr. said “If any canine breed today can use some positive public relations, it's the pit bull, according to Troka, associate director of Emory's Center for Faculty Development and Excellence and adjunct assistant professor in the Graduate Institute for Liberal Arts.” Majority of the dog that have attacked have been trained to do so, but what's looked at is not the fact that theses dogs can be trained easily, what's looked at is the fact that these dog attack. In an interview with Ernest Hapenny when asked “Would you say the way a Pit Bulls acts depends on its owner?” he replied by saying “Yes. In my opinion and experience I believe Pit bulls are one of the most loyal dogs you could own. These dogs “aim to please” their owner and if the owner themselves have bad intentions then it will definitely affect and influence the dog.” Pit Bulls are innocent dogs that are being punished for following orders, orders given to them by the people who are supposed to be training them and keeping them safe. This breed of dog is extremely misunderstood, so much so that some of the states have banned the breed. These dogs just need to be taught the right things so that they can overcome the “vicious” stereotype. Pit bulls are misunderstood because of how they are portrayed by the media, but “Baiss discovered that pit bulls, by their nature, are sweet, friendly dogs.” (Brown) Pit Bulls are large animals that can at sometimes be muscular and have scary looking faces, but just like a over muscular human. These dogs may look intimidating but it is just like the saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover” these dogs though muscular cannot really be judged by their look, and/or body type. Though these dogs were bred for the wrong reasons they are slowly overcoming the stereotype that portrays them as mean and menacing dogs. These dogs are becoming more popular, but as they become more popular there will also be people trying to prove that these dogs should not be around other dogs, animals, or humans. As Erest Hapenney said “Besides the owners themselves I think the media is very much responsible for the bad reputation of these animals.
