Today’s generation has the convenience to Google anything that comes to mind. Staying in touch with friends and family has never been so easy. Technology has opened up many doors in today 's culture and that has come with distraction. There was a time when using the telephone was to simply make phone calls. Now, we have the entire World Wide Web in our hands. It is being used at inappropriate times. Technology is constantly distracting to the real world by making people not attentive, creating multitasking drivers, uninvolved guests, and photo perfectionists.
There is nothing worse than talking to your friend really trying to have a conversation, and they are being inattentive by continuously looking at their phone or texting. All that is

They are known as the “multitask drivers.” These are the people that say they can do a lot of things while driving. This causes us all a lot of fear and frustration for the road. Their attitude is “I can do it all!” while they are scanning through social media while neglect driving through town. This affects us all by them being unsafe. Driving is a privilege that is taken for granted, as well as technology. Together it causes much harm and takes the concentration from the road. For instance, while driving on a road trip there was a car ahead of mine driving pretty recklessly; appearing to be swerving and slowing down and speeding up. It was a long drive that ended up on a two lane highway. During the entire drive there was a constant struggle in my head on whether the police should be called for the safety of the road. Their driving appeared to be a drunk driver. Soon that person rear-ended the car in front of them. Pulling over to help as a witness to the accident; it was clear it was a distracted driver. This accident shows that distracted by the phone can be almost as bad as a drunk driver. Laws were made to help prevent this, but yet it seems that it is a losing battle. There are organizations around the country trying to prevent texting and driving. Snapchatting while driving is insanely common; so much that it has a filter to not snap and drive. Social media is a huge part of why technology has overtaken our roads and society. Multitasking drivers are abusing the privileges we have with our vehicles and phones. They can’t seem to be reached; however, if we text them that would be read guaranteed at least if they are in the
Studies also show drunk driving is actually statistically safer than texting and driving. In my observation as my family was traveling to Wisconsin, I put tallies on my notebook to record the results of passing drivers. The results were surprising in that 1 out of 8 kids and 1 out of 5 adults in passing cars were distracted while driving. These statistics are actually scary to me because I will never know which one will make a mistake when I am around them on the road. The negative effects this problem causes death and serious injury to themselves and others. It also effects the distracted drivers by placing others around them in harm. As more people text on the roads the drivers will get too familiar texting and driving. According to most statistics, that’s when most mistakes happen. Phone and car companies allow this behavior to happen simultaneously. Phone companies are making their product easier to be distracted, as the technology is addicting to use for the consumers. The notifications from the phone distract most humans from accomplishing their tasks. The phone pings or sounds and the driver looks down. Car companies are now installing Wi-Fi in the newest cars of our generation. The WI-FI is active for all passengers. The distraction element is also active for
Those that think it is ok to text and drive do not realize how much harm, and danger they are putting their lives at, and the lives of others that are on the road as well. Even if one thinks that they are a good enough driver to be on their phone while they drive, still are not guaranteed that they will not get in an accident. No matter how much someone has been driving, or how good they are does not mean they should be using their phones, because just by taking a glance at their phone for a second could instantly change their lives, if they were to ever get in a car crash, or hurt another human
The several effects of distracted driving are deadly. Andrew Lavallee points out that “texting while driving is unsafe. Not only are a driver’s eyes off the road, one or both hands are off the wheel.” “We think it is incompatible with safe driving” (qtd. in Lavallee). “Study upon study showed that talking on a cellphone was far more dangerous than she’d realized – that a driver on a phone had the same reaction speed as someone legally intoxicated, that those talking on a phone behind the wheel are four times as likely to crash” (qtd. in Hanes). Stephanie Hanes also mentions that, “Unlike a conversation with a passenger, the electronic conversation takes a driver into a virtual space away from the road.” Subsequently, this causes severe problems and deadly
Distracted driving is such an increasing problem in the U.S. that there are laws against driving distracted. In New Jersey there is a handheld ban for all drivers and that is a primary law. There is a ban on all cell phone use (handheld and hands-free) for novice drivers. There is also a ban on texting for all drivers. This problem Is growing, drivers who are texting are 23.2 times more likely to get into a crash than people who aren’t (Cell Phones and Texting). Every driver takes their eyes off the road for approximately 4.6 seconds when texting. Driving is a new skill for teens, so doing multiple things simultaneously takes more effort for them than for more experienced drivers. Texting and driving can ruin families because when texting and driving there is a higher chance of getting in a crash. There are only 2 percent of people who can actually multitask successfully. Even though teens are more likely to try multitasking they are still part of the 98 percent who can’t do it safely. For example, Nebraska teen Emily Reynolds says...
While driving down the turnpike do you ever see an auto before you that is swerving or accelerating and backing off? At that point you think to yourself, "I would prefer not to take after behind or be in the path right alongside them." So you accelerate, and beyond any doubt enough the driver is utilizing their mobile phone. Actually, I am certain you have. Mobile phone utilization while driving is not just disappointing for different drivers; it is exceptionally perilous to all drivers who are on the road. At the point when a driver is utilizing a mobile phone, it doesn 't make a difference what sort of individual they are, or what their age is, or their sexual orientation, accidents don 't demonstrate any
It’s time to have an honest look into using phones while we drive. We don't understand why we continue the behavior, and it’s killing us. Distracted driving is leaving tragedy behind on American roadways while there is more likelihood of meeting a “texter’ than to meet an intoxicated driver. Accidents occur when people talk on cellphones or send text messages while driving. According to an article published by the CDC “Injury Prevention and Control: Motor vehicle Safety” “Some activities—such as texting—take the driver’s attention away from driving more frequently and for longer periods than any other distractions.” The CDC reports that younger, inexperienced drivers under the age of 20 may be at increased risk; they have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal crashes. There is a lot of media about teen drivers texting, emailing and using popular social media while driving Distracted driving is far from just a teen issue, there is no age limit on this growing epidemic. Looking down at a phone for just mere seconds while driving at highway speeds is the same as driving the distance of a football field without eyes on the road and what's taking place around you. Multitasking is often encouraged in many things we do, however when it comes to operating a motor vehicle, multitasking shouldn't be an option. While laws and programs have helped and have risen awareness to the problem people find ways to cheat the system. The technology world is working hard on devices that jam cell phones while a motor vehicle is in operation. Technology will be our only chance at reducing the injury and death from our ever so popular cellular devices. Technology brought us here and now its up to technology to reevaluate and change...
“John died in his sleep. He was warm, comfortable, and doing 70 miles per hour on the motorway”(Fatigue:THINK!:Roadsafety. (N.d.). Retrieved from http://think.direct.gov.uk/fatigue.html). Should drowsy driving be mandated as a criminal offense in the state of California? Few people realize the explicit dangers of drowsy driving. Consider the following scenario: Darkness surrounds your car on the drive home after a late night at the office. There is no light on the two-lane highway except for occasional flashes from the headlights of oncoming traffic. Your eyelids are heavy. You yawn. Your head begins to bob. As you shake your head from side to side trying
How many of you, be honest, get distracted while driving? All of us at some point do. It’s no secret that distracted driving accidents are a serious problem. The roads are filled with drivers that are putting innocent people's lives in danger and at risk without even knowing it. Most of us think it could never happen to us, and that’s what I thought too. I personally have been in two car accidents because of someone texting while driving and someone talking on the phone, once causing major damage to my car and the driver just took off. Mostly everyone is looking at their phones these days at every stop light or while driving even though it is illegal to drive while using your phone. Texting while driving is especially dangerous because it combines
From speeding to not wearing your seat belt, and texting and driving is no exception people do it too. In Kansas there is only a 60 dollar fine for texting and driving. By the time people texting and driving receive real consequences a child could already be dead. When teens text while they drive, they veer off lane 10% of their total drive time. http://distracteddriveraccidents.com/25-shocking-distracted-driving-statistics/ veering off the lane can cause crashes with other cars, cause the car to veer off the road or even veer of onto the sidewalk. they could kill themselves, children walking to school or anyone else on the road and that would be awful. A next door neighbor of mine had two children who were driving with friends. They had their seat belts on and were driving safely, but another car hit their car, that driver was texting and now their mom our next door neighbor has to deal with the loss of her children. Distracted driving kills, however the consequences for doing it is minimal and the real ramifications do not occur until someone is hurt or worse killed. It is a growing problem, according to Indiana State Police Sergeant Jerry Goodin."It will probably be our number one distracter as time goes on and technology increases,"Despite laws, warnings, and a general recognition by the public that texting while driving is dangerous, people still do it. Even the rising number of deaths involving distracted drivers
Whether it is a text massage from love one or a bite of a sandwich, it is not so important than a human life. Distracted driving is an epidemic, so more tough laws should be implemented. The law for distracted driving should be tough just like a driving under influence. Distracting driving is a killer on the road, it should be banned because, it is the number one killer of the U.S. teenager in the road, not only the teenager in the road, but also cause a collision which is often fatal, and some incident were driver or one who involve on an accident became disable. Distraction is an involvement of driver where his or hers eye or mind are engage and performing on other things rather than driving, such as while talking on
Technological advancement comes with a price—our focus. Maggie Jackson in her article “A Nation Distracted” explains that technology has promoted a culture of distraction in America. First, the author explains that technology is causing us to engage in more multitasking, which leads to more time spent on completing our tasks. Second, the author notes that studies show that youth and children are adept at using technology, but are deficient in their critical thinking skills, and properly investigating and using the internet. I feel that the author makes an important point when discussing technology is leading to widespread distraction in our society.
Mark Borgard says that there is two reasons people use their cell phones while driving. The first reason is for multitasking. Nowadays, people think that they are supposed to be able to do many things at a time. Technology has revolved so much and made it easier to multitask. People think that the technology changing is a good thing, but it just makes everything more dangerous. The second reason is in consideration. Many people don’t think that there stupid ch...
Now a days everyone is glued to their phones, constantly checking their emails, facebooking, snapchatting and texting. With all the devices people have and interact with on a day to day basis, there seems to be a lack of knowledge on how dangerous these devices really are. A report done by the AAA traffic safety foundation showed that “Each year, more than 80% of drivers in the annual AAA Foundation Traffic Safety Culture Index cite distraction as a serious problem and a behavior that makes them feel less safe on the road.” With the limited hours of free time during the day, people are using driving time to check emails and make phone calls which is inflicting on the safety of everyone around them. Texting and driving needs to be a thing of
Scrolling through my Snapchat stories I could probably count on both hands how many people snapchat while driving. People snapchatting their speed or even recording while they drive and blasting a song over their speakers. Using one’s phone while driving has evolved from just texting to using other social medias that might even take more attention and concentration, like Snapchat or Instagram. If one put out an anonymous survey to the school, one would find that a huge percentage of students at one’s school does, even though they know it is wrong. According to a American Automobile Association poll, “94% of teen drivers acknowledge the dangers of texting and driving, but 35% admitted to doing it anyway”(“Texting and Driving Accident Statistics,”
However I believe the multitask is absolutely dangers for the drivers. In addition, from my own experience, that one day while my brother driving us to the mall he is driving, texting and eating at the same time which he think he is good at multitasking, but we have an accident with another driver and it was my brother mistake. Furthermore , I have read that number of Americans killed every day from motor vehicle accidents that involved distracted driving, such as using a cell phone and texting. Moreover, they have some of the time to texting or eating in the traffic or they can parking to do whatever they want to save their
