Persuasive Essay On Internet Freedom

1398 Words3 Pages

‘What do you mean I cannot post this hilarious dank meme because my government says no?! That is what the Internet is for, right?’ Right! “The Internet is a crucial medium through which people can express themselves and share ideas, and has become an increasingly important tool through which democracy and human rights activists mobilize and advocate for political, social, and economic reform” (“Internet Freedom” 1). Placing restrictions on a person’s use of the Internet, an important medium through which information is relayed all across the world, is in violation of that person’s basic human rights. ‘Sweet! Now I don’t have to listen to my mother whenever she tells me that I can’t be on the computer, and I can stay up as late as I want to check Reddit for new articles about the secret moon base that Ronald Reagan approved of to spy on the Soviets!’ Hold on a second. Although that does sound interesting, before reading too deeply into an article you also have to remember that because people have the freedoms of speech and expression while online that everything that you see may or may not be as factual as it tries to be; nevertheless, they still have the right to post their ideas, thus creating the most creative and entertaining side of the World Wide Web.
