Immigration debate:
Immigration is a widespread problem these days. You may ask yourself what immigration means. It means to move to other country for purpose of job or permanent settlement. Illegal immigration comes into focus when people do not follow guidelines during the immigration process. For example, an abundant of paper work is required to receive immigration rights and much more. Americans see immigrants as a problem inside our borders that need to be dealt with. Over time Americans have blamed undocumented Mexican immigrants for the economic problems in the US. The uproar between Mexico and US made the government very strict on Immigrants. Illegal alien is the politically correct terminology for all the illegal persons in the United States but could be a better word. When people use the term undocumented immigrants they are basically saying uninvited people, they tend to use this term to hide the reality of the situation. Honestly I can see both of these terms hurtful to immigrants. I read an article In the New York Times by a young immigrant Jose Antonio Vargas which was titled “My life as an Undocumented Immigrant”. He went on to say his mother put him in a cab with his bag and sent him off to the United States to live with his Grandparents to have a better life. He was only 12 when this happened. He grew up in the US and learned the English language. When he turned 16 he went to the DMV to get a driver’s licenses because all the kids in school were getting theirs. Little did he know his grandfather gave him a fake green card? The DMV lady told him it was fake and to never come back. At this point the boy felt scared and confused as he lived in the United States and felt like an American but that little piece of paper says otherwise. Jose was determined to live the American dream. He achieved so many things like graduating high school, and college. He even built a career as a journalist. This is very sad in my eyes, although he has lived in the United States in the American dream in reality he is still and undocumented immigrant. …show more content…

A young senior boy named Juan Erasmus will be deported back to South Africa. To him the American dream is now over. Why is this happening in our community. A young boy that would graduate next year will be deported back and have to drop out of high school. This is so unfair in my eyes; this young man should have a chance in our American life! His grandparents state how awful and dangerous it was in Africa and that was the main reason they moved to the states. They had a priority to keep Juan safe and have a better life for him. How can the government just take that away from an innocent young boy? All because he don’t have a green card and can’t be adopted because he is over
