Border enforcement has its results: recent numbers show, that fewer immigrants from Mexico are crossing the border than they have in decades and the ones who do, are mostly people who lived in the U.S. for decades. They are the seasoned crossers, who confidently say, that nothing will stop them from coming back. Some might attribute the decline to other factors, such as the recession in the United States and unfavorable economic climate. Nevertheless, even as the economy has improved, illegal immigration continues to go down.
Stiffer U.S. security measures are making the trip more arduous and dangerous for the migrants, in part because the DHS has plugged traditional crossing points and driven the crossers deeper into the desert. The process …show more content…

The influx of illegal immigrants creates the economic “winners” and “losers”. Agriculture, construction, retail and hospitality industries significantly benefit from the availability of cheap undocumented labor. Illegal immigrants themselves, in spite of working for low wages, are still making much more that they would have been making in their home countries and are able to send remittances to support their families. On the other hand, the cost of providing public services for illegal immigrants and their children, such as education and medical care lies on the shoulders of the taxpayers. Many illegal immigrants indeed diligently pay taxes and have paid more than $11.8 billion in state and local taxes in 2012.
