Human trafficking has been in existence for since the beginning of America in the 1600s. In the last few years, the human trafficking trade has grown to become the second largest criminal empire worldwide. (14ju) It is modern-day slavery for people around the world and there not an end in sight. Mayor Parker said “"Human trafficking is a crime that impacts communities around the world."” (14ju) People have done many despicable acts to trap the children and adults in this world. There are many factors that cause someone to sell or trade a person to another person. The factors that causes this could be poverty-stricken, war, safety, or greed. The selling of human life is a deplorable act. It is a real problem and there needs a real solution to stop human trafficking. Human traffickers lie and trick their victims so they can kidnap them from their homes. The selling of their bodies, being raped, and abused for profit is a business we need to change in Houston. Steve Roskey, an agent with Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in Houston, found a cantina filled with victims from human trafficking and rescued the ladies saying “he used those keys to unlock dark secrets at 8403 Clinton Drive that he 'd never before witnessed: a series of gates and hidden doors leading to passageways, a chrome travel trailer that doubled as an office and a series of secret rooms.” (Roskey) Finding beds soak in pee and semen and young ladies laying there with little to no clothes on the small frames. Jessica Alexander wrote about how these woman who are used in the dirty and unsafe cantinas or residential brothels are sometimes made to also be used as a baby mill. (Alexander) If the traffickers can the trafficked victims’ bodies they are force to work in agricultural, restaurants, domestic servitude, sweat shops. Furthermore, being in a cramp space sewing counterfeit items against their will is an unconstitutional and cold-hearted act. Maybe, closing all businesses that have a hint of sexual oriented and corrupt industries would help with the problem. The ultimate goal of United Against Human Trafficking (formerly Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition) and every organization against human trafficking is to ensure that one day, human slavery will truly be a thing of the past.
