Recommended: Poverty as the cause of homelessness

A lot of people take what they have for granted. They get so used to a stable home or a stable income, they forget to be thankful for it. Most times, they are so used to it, they even forget it could be taken away from them at any moment. They never stop to think that a series of misfortunate events could turn their world upside down and drive them to homelessness.
Homelessness is a serious issue affecting millions of people worldwide. By definition, homelessness involves a lack of housing as well as an inability to acquire and maintain an adequate residence, especially during the night. As of right now, the homeless population constitutes about 11% of the poor population in the Unites States (Susser 412). Furthermore, statistics show in 2013,
Homeless shelter, soup kitchens, and other forms of aid for the homeless actually benefit the economy. Research shows providing different services and opportunities for the homeless actually saves taxpayer dollars in the long run (193; ch. 7). To a lot of people, creating homeless shelters might seem costly right now because it involves a lot of money, but I think the later benefits of it will outweigh the cost. According to the textbook, the new services will interrupt the cycles of emergency room visits, detoxes, jail time, and more (193, ch. 7). Some people might think this idea is Ludacris, but it 's really not. If the homeless have a place to stay, they are less likely harassed, which, if the attack is severe enough, can land them a trip to the emergency room. Moreover, they will be able to avoid harsh weather conditions, which can also land a trip to the emergency room. This is especially true during winter because of how cold it is. In addition, jail time can also be reduced by providing more homes for the homeless. If they have a place to live, they will have a place to shower, and eat. This will lessen their chances of robbing stores or entering private property in order to meet their
