Homeless people not only live in a situation of extreme poverty (Phelan, Link, Moore & Stueve, 1997; Lee, Tyler & Wright, 2010), but also suffer from a high degree of social disengagement, and have great difficulties in obtaining the social skills and employment opportunities along with having significant health problems (Panadero & Guillen, 2015).
Research consistently shows that homeless people do want to work, and that there are a number of people involved in their employment search, but employers are reluctant to hire due to doubts, questions, concerns and conceptions about them wanting, motivations, capabilities and reliability to work along with their appearance (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2013). This would not be the case, if employers remove the stereotypes they project towards homeless people. …show more content…

Because of the obstacles to seek or get to work, many individuals turn to illegal work as their duration of homelessness increases (Lee, Tyler & Wright, 2010). Illegal work is any act of panhandling, bartering, street vending, up to the extend of prostituting, theft, or drug sales.
