When one thinks of formative education throughout early-to-middle childhood and/or adolescence, they likely imagine large, plain, institutional buildings built of commercial blocks, colored with off-white paint and filled with staggering lines of children of many different age groups. One might imagine a public school’s playground, with large-paneled gates enclosing the perimeter around a main building or communal water fountains and bathrooms measured equidistantly between corridors of classrooms which line the halls. He or she might envision rows and rows of lockers lining each hallway- neatly packing and compartmentalizing each student’s books, bags, and tools with which to build their own academic successes.
However, since the mid-1970s, alternative educational methods such as parent-led, home-based education has shown steady growth as an alternative to traditional, state-run establishments (National Education Association). Home schooling,

According to statistics and data collected by the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), the five most common reasons parents choose to home school are as follows: 1) there is more opportunity to customize and individualize curriculum as well as the learning environment for optimal learning conditions, 2) the home is widely considered to be more safe than public and private schools, 3) specific cultural/religious values and beliefs may be encouraged and incorporated into education, 4) home schooling promotes enhanced familial relationships and bonding, and 5) home schooled children in North America have averaged scores 15 to 30 percentile points higher than public school students (NHERI). Ultimately, however, there seems to be one common factor as to why parents choose home education as opposed to other, more convenient options: it’s simply better than the
After viewing the panel discussion about how our local school districts have implemented English Language Learning in their school, I am very intrigued. From what I gathered the field of ELL is a growing industry in education, especially in Colorado Springs. We have ELL’s students coming from all over the world. Here in Colorado Springs alone, school districts have to accommodate for over fifty different languages spoken by ELL’s. I can only imagine the challenge that comes with such a diverse group of non- English speakers in our community schools.
This newspaper article describes the increase of home schooling in the United States through a recent survey. The article does not specify an author.
According to the most recent federal study, the number of homeschooled students continues to rise. The number has nearly doubled from 850,000 in 1999 to 1.5 million in 2007 (Rotherham, par. 2). This means nearly 3.4% of all school age children are now being taught at home. An estimated 250,000 to 340,000 high school (grades 9-12) students were being homeschooled during the 2000-2001 conventional school year. In North Carolina the number of homeschooled students is now more than the number of those enrolled in private schools (Plecnik, par.
This popular symbolic social interaction has become a permanent trend in many households in America. “Home Schooling is a substitution for conventional education in the public schools which focuses on the individual Childs or Children’s needs and capabilities for learning at their own pace at home.
Parents decide to homeschool their children for multiple reasons. The most commonly given reason for homeschooling is religious and/or moral values. These reasons make up roughly seventy-five percent of parents. Some of these parents want more spiritual lessons taught that would not be provided in other schools. Others do not want their children to learn about evolution theories or sex education. The second most popular reason for hom...
An estimated 4 million children are currently home schooled with a 15-20% yearly growth rate. According to a California study by researcher Dr. Brian [D.] Ray, 92 percent of school superintendents believe that home learners are emotionally unstable, deprived of proper social development and too judgmental of the world around them. The latest claim against home schooling suggests that home schoolers are potential child abusers. Mr. Ron Barnard, a Holly High School teacher says that he would prefer public schooling for his children because of the peer socialization, extra curricular, and mandated curriculum. Public schooling is more efficient in educating our youth than traditional home schooling.
The American Educational System is not what it used to be. Many people fear the falling standards of the United States’ public school system. What with the harsh social environment, the controversial curriculum, the overpaid, corrupt teachers with their own agenda, and the exposure to horrifying new ideas and ways of thinking; Or at least this is what the paranoid parents of the United States have led themselves to believe. Anything looks bad when you look at it in such harsh light. Granted, there are a few (or several ) flaws in the Public Educational System but rather than make an attempt to help fix these problems, parents take it upon themselves to educate their own children and “fix” them. This alternative form of education known as Home School gives parents the opportunity to teach their children as they see fit. However, this method of schooling can prove to be more harmful to the child rather than helpful.
In the recent times, home schooling has been the most sought mode of learning by the American parents. In fact, it estimated that over 1 million children in America are now undergoing home schooling (Cooper, 2005). Although this form of learning is legally acceptable, parents are entrusted with teaching and coaching their children in all subjects. In addition, parents can also hire private tutors for their children as part of home schooling. This form of learning is aimed at ensuring that parents commit themselves in ensuring their children are able to learn like other kids in public schools.
With the evolution of education, society has two different methods of education, homeschool and public school. While both approaches have their positives and negatives, homeschool has more positive attributes making it the superior option. In recent years, homeschooling rates have risen seventy-five percent (Courtney 1). Homeschooling allows the student to have freedom in many aspects, and it is proven statistically that homeschool students out-perform their peers significantly. But with any argument, there are oppositions.
The major reasons for homeschooling cited by two-thirds of the parents interviewed are concern about the school environment, dissatisfaction with the academic programs, and the desire for religious or moral instruction (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2004). Parents feel ...
One might ask why some parents decide to home school their children rather than send them to public school to receive a traditional public education. In his article, “What Have We Learned About Homeschooling,” Eric Isenberg offers data which says, “Families choose to homeschool their children for both academic and religious reasons” (407). Even so, most people claim that public school offers the perfect environment for learning and developing. They argue
There are many reasons for homeschooling a child. These reasons include, religious reasons, lack of a good public school district, and distrust of any school district for one’s child, to name a few. Many professionals are completely against the practice of home schooling, says Thomas Shannon, executive director of the National School Board Association. He says that home schooling is “a giant step backward into the 17th century. (Stencel, 1994)
Homeschooling is receiving instruction of education in a place other than an established school. Some parents feel if they keep their children at home, they can minimize the chance that harm can happen. Other parents feel that they know their child best and can utilize personal strengths to work on educational needs. In the past, religion was the leading cause of parents who chose home schooling, now days this does not necessarily hold true.
For most of the delinquent students got caught from their slightly misbehaving act for the first few times is not really a problem. What they don’t know about is that there is a program that can literarily handle even the most delinquent student must also bow down in surrender. The program is called “Weekend School”, also known for many students as “Hellish Torture School.” It was considered the most terrible and awful program and most students were afraid of.
