Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. They produce vital oxygen and provide homes for people and wildlife. Many of the world’s most threatened and endangered animals live in forests, and 1.6 billion people rely on benefits forests offer, including food, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter (drug war facts, Page 1).
Hemp should be used as an alternative for trees. In order to better understand hemp as an alternative, we need to know what hemp is, what it’s used for, and where it grows. We also need to learn how it is a good replacement for trees, how it helps animals, and the overall benefits of hemp.
In order to save these endangered species and to cut down the need for relying on trees, we need to make sure the animals have a place to live that won’t be cut down for our own personal gain. Trees are dying either by forest fires, people cutting them down, lightning strikes and more and it takes a long time for them to grow back to where they were. Hemp grows ten times faster than any tree and is sustainable most anywhere so if it gets hit by lighting or cut down and is planted again it will be growing faster than the tree you planted in your backyard two summers ago. If we change our habits of using paper and switch to a better product (hemp), we could completely change the world we are living today. Just imagine a world where, instead of nasty polluting paper factories, they are replaced with clean and environmentally friendly hemp factories. Instead of all the cut down trees and endangered animals, we have plush luscious trees and happy creatures running and prancing about. Instead of killing homes for animals we plant more and watch them grow. This can only happen if everyone gets involved.
To fix this problem costs little to no money. The guarantee of a better world is priceless. So why don’t we use trees for breathing and hemp for reading? Think about this next time you have a choice to choose between hemp and the other brand.

Why isn 't marijuana legal in the United States? Marijuana could serve many purposes to the human body and the community. In 1937, the government issued the Marijuana Tax Act. This act immediately criminalized marijuana. This means you can not have possession of the drug for medical purposes or not. This act is still in effect today, but it should be repealed .

This allowed America to have free colonial press from Britian without having to ask for them. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were both drafted on hemp paper. Betsey Ross made the first flag of the United States of America out of hemp, which was the strongest known fiber at the time. “Farmers from 1942 through 1945 who agreed to grow hemp were waived from serving in the military, along with their sons; that is how vitally important hemp was to America during World War II.” Henry Ford also used hemp-based plastic to create vehicles, which was proven to be stronger and lighter than steel and could withstand much more impact without denting. Our society as a whole is being closed-minded when making decisions. We are accepting ideals from 50-60 years ago and letting negative views and affiliations keep us from a very abundant, and renewable resource. We could literally boost our economy over-night, and I am just not talking about one single industry. Marijuana has been widely mis-viewed as a bad thing; society classifies marijuana as a drug, parents warn their children to stay away from marijuana because it is bad; but those are all misconceptions. But in reality, it is actually a very beneficial drug to many degrees. Marijuana actually has numerous favorable effects, such as helping people escape the cruel reality for a moment, helping patients who are almost at the end of their lives feel better, and helping the economy recover. In addition, marijuana’s side effects are all due to human abusing it, like the old saying goes, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. The hemp plant is a valuable agriculture resource and legalizing it paves the way for its cultivation and industrialization. Governments the world are spends a lot of money on the war against marijuana. There would be more money for the government to use on other more pressing issues if marijuana was legal. Prohibition of the drug does not help much, but according to study, it also increases the use of the drug by increasing curiosity in people (US News, 2016).

Environmental issues affect every life on this planet from the smallest parasite to the human race. There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. The wood from the forests are used everyday form many useful resources. Moreover, thinning the forests increases the amount of available light, nutrients and water for the remaining trees. Deforestation (forest thinning) is one of the most critical issues of environmental problems that are occurring today.
In America, marijuana is the most used drug after alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana is used by millions of Americans, despite the harsh laws illegalizing the drug. Some states, such as Washington and Colorado have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Efforts to legalize the drug in other states have been unsuccessful such as Proposition 19 in California, which failed in 2010 despite uptight campaigns. Billions of dollars are spent at the state, local, and federal level to fight the use of marijuana. Millions are arrested for marijuana offenses and sentenced for extended periods. Marijuana has negative effects on the human health and high potential for addiction. Legalizing marijuana will eliminate the black market, which is responsible for the increase in violence, crime, and corruption. Resources used for mass incarceration in the war on drug can be redirected to rehabilitation to decrease drug abuse and addiction.

Rainforests once covered 14% of the worlds land surface, however now it only covers a mere 6%. It is estimated that all rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years. Trees are becoming more needed and used everyday. We need them cut down for many reasons such as paper and timber, while also needing them ‘untouched’ for other reasons like oxygen, we have to ask ourselves, which is more important? At the current rate, most of the rainforests are being cut down for resources like paper and timber, but less importance is being placed on main resources like oxygen.
Forests are vital for life and have many important functions. They are home to millions of species and protect soil from erosion. Along with this they produce oxygen which is vital for human life, store carbon dioxide and help control climate. They also provide humans with shelter, food and medicines vital for life.
