What if there was a way we could make kids perform better in class? What if we could minimize school dropouts? What would it take? Childhood performance in the classroom is demoting, because students may not have access to the proper nutrients and vitamins to keep them going during the day, which results in not comprehending certain concepts and being too much to handle. Although some districts say that supplying healthier lunches is too costly, schools should continue to give students healthy lunch options. During a study about school lunches, the main story’s author, Juliana Cohen, stated that due to the increase in the poverty rate in underprivileged parts of the world, families may not have the necessary funds feasible to provide their children with the crucial vitamins and protein that they need for three meals a day, everyday. They rely heavily on schools to provide such, and if schools result to serving fatty foods with high sugars, children living in these conditions might not thrive as much as a student who get the quintessential amount of recommended vitamins. In addition, according to Childhood Obesity Facts, students who don’t eat as healthy as they should, are more likely to become overweight, which in turn could potentially lead to bullying and teasing, rather than a normal weighted child. This could lead to depression, low self esteem, and social isolation. Children might even start to dislike school if they were getting teased, which could lead to an increase in dropout rates. A person from a different point of view might say that kids are still kids and they should be able to eat what they want because they still have their life ahead of them. The truth is, someone's childhood is something no fancy car, house, or money could replace what happened in their early stage of life.
