Roughly 16,272 murders were committed in the United States during 2008. Of these, about 10,886 or 67% were committed with firearms. Is the Second Amendment misunderstood and taken advantage of? The U.S. has more mass shootings than any other nation in the world, and this is because more than half the world’s guns are owned by U.S. homeowners. Gun violence in America is out of control, it is guilty for 52 school shootings this past year, 13 children being injured, all because of states allowing people to carry guns on the street and guns with easily accessible locks. Whereas other countries don’t need gun control laws, as a result they have few casualties per year, thus I truly believe that guns are responsible for most of the crime in America. …show more content…

Even if the second amendment is not changed or vetoed, the government should specify that only a legal responsible adult can own a gun. The key word there is adult. According to an online debate, Coozinator argues, “Children do not have the mindset to understand how dangerous guns can be, and even when taught the danger, they definitely shouldn 't learn how to use them. Children often create their own games which a gun easily could be added since they understand how to use one.” This is important to my claim because it supports my view that children do not know the responsibility of how to use a gun or have access to a gun at home. If it were illegal for children to be taught to use a gun then I believe that children would realize and learn that guns are dangerous and there’s a reason why they’re illegal, which would cause a huge decrease in children being injured or killed. Among the youngest children,those younger than 4, the number of accidental gun deaths more than doubled, to 25 kids a year. In Massachusetts, a boy found his mother’s handgun under her mattress and took it out for a spin even after she told him never to touch the gun. The media had full coverage on the situation and reported, “But the lure of the gun was irresistible. He decided to show it off to his neighbor, 12-year-old Brian Crowell. ‘He was going, 'Click, click, click,’’ pretending to shoot the gun, says Brian 's mother, Ann Marie Crowell, who spoke to the child and his mother after the incident. ‘But there was one last bullet. It went into Brian 's neck.’ And just like that, Crowell’s son was gone.” This example of children being hurt from a gun supports my claim that children are not fully understanding of the dangers of handling a gun.
