Recommended: Controversy over the second amendment

Gun Control The United States is a place where guns are a big deal. Independence was won with guns, the President is protected by armed security, and the citizens protect themselves with guns. If it isn’t clear that the United States likes their guns, the second amendment behind only freedom of speech reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This is an important amendment and is a right of the people. Even with the Constitution keeping these rights in the hands of the people, gun control is one of the most popular topics in the United States. Donald Trump, has favored being very careful to not violate the constitution, and is against most gun control, but did say that he would like assault weapons to be banned (Donald Trump Talks...). Ben Carson believes that semi-automatic weapons are fine as long as you keep them in the countryside and out of cities. Similar to Trump, he also would not want anything changed when it comes to the 2nd Amendment and along with that thinks that law abiding citizens should not be forced to register guns (Ben Carson on Gun Control). Jeb Bush favors more punishment for the person that uses the gun wrongly instead of blaming the gun for why the crime was committed. Hillary Clinton wants to ban assault weapons and focus on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. While doing this she also, like most, wants to stay away from changing the 2nd Amendment (Hillary Clinton on Gun Control). Bernie Sanders also favors a ban of assault weapons but also wants to ban high capacity magazines. This is different from the other candidates that have been brought up, as he is the only one to mention magazines (Bernie Sanders on Gun Control). Joe Biden just like Clinton and Sanders wants an assault weapon ban and also calls for trigger locks on all guns.
