Between the years 2000 and 2010, over 100,000 people in the United States died due to gun violence despite the fact that USA has very many laws on gun possession and use. A large number of victims who have sustained bullets wounds have been recorded even though some cases go unreported. Gun control is now a major issue in the United States due to the many cases of deaths and injuries in the last decade (Tamara p6). The issues has raised a lot of controversial debates the US, with a certain group of people against gun control while the other group in support of the control and regulation (O’Neil p3). Anti-gun control group believe that gun control will not end the violence but instead it will matters worse, on the other hand, gun control argue that the move by the government will make USA more secure and reduces instances of deaths as a result of gun wounds. Both sides have firm stance on their take about gun control (Christina p4). Gun control does not mean that the government should disarm everyone and do away with the guns; of course we need them for protection. Gun control means certain types will not be available, for example pro-guns and machine guns to the civilians (Tamara p8). Moreover, possession of the guns will be regulated under the constitution. The anti-gun control activists argue that civilians should be allowed to own guns for their own security. They say that a gun does not kill but rather it is the person who pulls the trigger that kills. They fail to tell us that the gun plays a bigger role in the killing. Most gun right supporters argue that if assault weapons are banned or more difficult to acquire, criminals with the intent of killing mass amounts of people will just find other means in which to do so.
