The Education System
Education is a high priority for many parents and students alike. In the United States, there are about 50.4 million adolescents in elementary, junior high, and high school. Many of these students (and parents alike) are unhappy with the education system and how it runs. There has been many calls, cries, and demands for major reforms to the education system; reforms that need to happen in hope that it will be better for everyone who attends school in the United States. One of the main issues with schools is the menu: the lunches are either unappealing, not filling, or sheerly unhealthy. The unappealing lunches lead more people to choose to bring their own lunches, or, according to Julie Kelley and Jeff Stier (writers at the Wall Street Journal), children throw away the lunches …show more content…

Additionally, this is a waste of money and food, as each district had lost approximately $30,000 with the new healthier lunch program, the National School Lunch Program. That was $30,000 literally being thrown away. Furthermore, due to students not eating the food provided to them, many choose to go to vendors and convenience stores after school to purchase junk food, which, in all probability, will be chips, candies, and sodas. If these things are consumed on a practically daily basis, they can have severe health consequences. Perhaps the government-provided funds that went into this failed program would be of better use in another program – the arts.
